Glee Baits Ramin Setoodeh Further By Casting Openly Gay Cheyenne Jackson

cheyenne_225.jpgDespite the fact that Idina Menzel is returning to Glee next season, it looks like Vocal Adrenaline is getting a new coach. Broadway vet and 30 Rock co-star Cheyenne Jackson will be appearing in a recurring capacity as VA's head honcho. But why might his casting upset former Newsweek writer Ramin Setoodeh?

At the Paley Center earlier this month, executive producer Brad Falchuk revealed that Jessalyn Gilsig's hated Terri Schuester would get a new love interest in the new season, one that makes her former husband, Will (Matthew Morrison), very jealous.

Considering the adult male characters on Glee are limited to Principal Figgins, Kurt's dad and Will himself (Patrick Gallagher, who played football coach Ken Tanaka, will not return), it seems that Terri's love interest would have to be a new adult character -- and it can't be newbie John Stamos, who's already been claimed. Could Jackson's coach be another romantic rival for Will to deal with, and would that mean that the openly gay actor will be playing another straight role, much to Setoodeh's chagrin?

Of course, he could also be Kurt's new love interest, but that seems too scandalous for even Ryan Murphy.

A straight man's counterpoint to Setoodeh's stance: If he's made me jealous in previous roles (by like, say, making out with Tina Fey), I'll buy a gay actor as anything.

And as a straight woman, Cheyenne made me all kinds of weak in the knees from his appearance on 30 Rock. I don't think he'll have any problems playing opposite the ladies in other shows.

I thought Terri Schuester was demonstrating the hots for one Finn Hudson over towel folding at Sheets-N-Things.
