Presenting Your New Avengers Line-Up

As I breathlessly mentioned just a little while ago, at Comic-Con tonight, Marvel Studios unveiled the lineup of The Avengers to throngs of comic book dorks. Check out one of their first photos together after the jump and take a look at their official movie logo right here to the left!

This is the lin-up that brought Hall H to its feet and erupt in such thunderous applausethat you would think Justin Bieber and Jesus Christ just announced they were getting the band back together.

That's Scarlett Johansson as the Black Widow, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Samuel L. Jackson as Col. Nick Fury, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulson, and Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk! Plus director Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige.

Please note that Robert Downey Jr. looks like either a Carnaby Street fop or the best attired opium sot I've ever seen. Forgive me for earlier neglecting to mention Clark Gregg, because he's all up in this Avengers business as well. But, sadly it looks like poor 'ol Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) is the only woman represented. No Wasp? No Scarlet Witch? Hell, I would've settled for Tigra. And it seems no Ant-Man, either.

But that's just picking some nits. The crowd went wild the minute they rolled a trailer showing off the new logo, with Samuel L. Jackson majestically reciting the classic Avengers' preamble:

"And there came a day, a day unlike any other, when Earth's mightiest heroes and heroines found themselves united against a common threat. On that day, the Avengers were born."

Avengers Assemble!

I hope I'm not the only one dancing around to "Gimme More" by Britney Spears right now.

    I just had a nerdgasim.

  • Dimo says:

So is there going to be an actual villain for them to fight for screen time?

  • 2+2=4 says:

No, no villain. Each one of them will battle the ego of the other one for bigger screen time and longer lines.
And it's good they have at least one female there, otherwise it is just old school sausage fest. Speaking of which, where is Paltrow in all this?

  • pinkyt says:

I don't know... sure they have assembled a good team of actors, but with so many of them what are they going to have time to do on screen, other than look cool (hopefully) in their costumes and react to CGI?
"otherwise it is just old school sausage fest"
Now, that actually sounds a little promising....

  • SunnydaZe says:

Maybe that would make a good villain> SAUSAGEFEST!

  • LickyDisco says:

...and his villainous toady, the Sauerkraut Kid!

  • SunnydaZe says:

Let's slap our names on the script an call it a re-write.

  • I am usually not the guy to write comments on people’s blogs, but for this post I just had to do it. I’ve been digging close to your website whole lot nowadays and I'm very impressed, I think you could definitely emerge as the primary voices for your market. Not positive what your load is like in life, but if you started devoting much more effort to posting on this site, I would guess you'd begin seeing a bunch of traffic soon. With ads, it could possibly become a sweet second revenue stream. Just an idea to ponder. Superb luck!

  • Awesome, Lady Gaga won eight VMA awards on Sunday. I am definitely excited for her wins and I enjoyed that Born This Way song Lady GaGa sang also!
