Can Scarlett Johansson Become the Next Angelina Jolie?
While it probably won't top Inception at the box office this weekend -- yes, you told me so -- Salt is still a major success, most of which can be attributed to Angelina Jolie. Can you think of another female star in 2010 who could lead an action film to $40 million in ticket sales on opening weekend? Of course not. But by 2014, Angie might have company in the form of Scarlett Johansson.
Take this with the grain of salt it deserves, but according to Gatecrasher (the New York Daily News version of Page Six), Johansson has "verbally agreed" to take the female lead opposite Robert Downey Jr. in Alfonso Cuarón's upcoming 3D epic, Gravity. You'll recall Gravity as the film that will feature an opening shot that lasts for 20 minutes, and enough 3D whizbag special effects to make Avatar feel inadequate.
And that's where Johansson comes in. Before 2009, her appearance in a film usually meant that it was either an indie, a box office poison pill, or both. But He's Just Not That Into You -- an ensemble which was sold on the presence of her body -- marked a sea change. Followed up by Iron Man 2 -- in a role that could be described as Jolie-Lite -- and you've got the makings of a trend that will be certified when Gravity and The Avengers roll out in 2012.
Ironically, the female lead in Gravity was originally offered to Jolie, but she turned it down. Gatecrasher makes the silly assumption that she didn't want to play co-star to Robert Downey Jr. (forgetting apparently that she plays co-star to Johnny Depp in the upcoming The Tourist). But if that is the case, you can't really blame her -- she isn't 26 anymore and this isn't her Gone in 60 Seconds/Tomb Raider period. You know who does turn 26 this fall? Yep, you got it. If you wake up one morning and read that Scarlett Johansson has taken the lead in Wanted 2, don't say I didn't warn you.

No one can be the next Angelina. There's only one. They can try but Angelina will always be better
Scar-Jo is a close second though. All she need do is start adopting orphans from impovereished countries and voila!
Angie is Angie. She is an original who display a soft side as well as a kick-ass attitude to her persona. Scarlett is a gorgeous woman in her own right but she does not have that "it" quality that Angie have.
You got the story and plot of Gravity wrong. Actually Robert Downey replaced Jolie in the movie. She was going to play the lead.. they then switched it from a female astronaut stranded and desperate to get back to earth to her husband and child to a male lead (Downey) desperate to get back to his wife (Scarlet) and their child. .
Salt $12.7 million on its opening day! Where did you get $40 million for the weekend!!!! LOL I wouldn't guess. I would wait and see..LMAO I bet this movie only does 20 million because everyone who wanted to see it went Friday...LMAO

saturdays and sundays tend to be bigger moneymakers. That's where the $40 million projection comes from. With your 20 million projection, you expect Salt to make only 3 or 4 million on saturday? Umm, I can tell you no. The $40 million is a number that will be closer to it's final tally.
Scarjo has never carried a lead in anything that was a success other LIT which was Bill Murray. When they put her with big stars like Jennifer Anniston and Berrymore,the movie has some success but not because of her. This will tell if people will go to see her play a lead or not. Her IM2 part was a joke and with very little screen time.
She did do the Nanny Diaries and we all saw what happened with that.
Roberto downey JR replaced Angie. She replaced Tom C before . WoW that girl is rocking.
At least Scarlett Johansson looks like she eats every once in a while. While Angelina Jolie is a beautiful woman, I just think she's ridiculous as an action star. My 5 year old neice can sneeze and blow her away, then sit on her to pin her down. Johansson is much more believeable as someone who can hold their own in a fight.
Jolie is a husband stealin lowlife. No respect for her fellow women. If shes a woman, she looks kinda man-girlish to me.
