Spoiler: The Weeds Season Six Trailer Finally Kills Nancy's Iced Coffee

nancy_weeds_225.jpgIf you've kept up with Weeds for the last five seasons you know to expect one thing -- well, one thing besides a contrived and maddening plot that continually ups the stakes to the detriment of its own narrative cohesion: Nancy Botwin's iced-coffee fixation. And that the upcoming season of Weeds disposes of her crutch so violently, should tell you all you need to know about where this show is headed.

For starters, Calgary. After last season ended with young Shane (Alexander Gould) killing the manipulative Pilar with a croquet mallet -- spoiler alert, but really if you cared you would have watched it already -- Nancy (Mary Louise-Parker) and her clan of ne'er-do-wells hit the road to find a new life. That means fake passports, disguises, hidden identities and Linda Hamilton as a pot dealer.

Yes, drugs are still a part of Weeds -- in this case, hash -- but the show is almost unrecognizable from when it started six summers ago. Thank goodness then for the always-wonderful Justin Kirk, who seems to be the only person who still remembers Weeds is a comedy. That he's the one to assassinate Nancy's iced coffee by slapping it out of her hands ("You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that") allows for a smidgen of hope that the upcoming season will be an improvement on the previous two. That the trailer already foreshadows a contrived plot involving Doug (Kevin Nealon) selling Nancy and company out to Esteban's goons, however, does not.

VERDICT: Pass.

Comments

  • Seriously. The show was amazing for the first 3 seasons. I wish they would have stopped at the end of that season finale. Instead, we get two HORRIBLE additional seasons to suffer through.

  • And yes, thank GOD for Justin Kirk. Like Alec Baldwin was to 30 Rock's fourth season - Kirk is about the only thing keeping Weeds together.

  • TurdBlossom says:

I'm already missing Elizaeth Perkins, although looking at Hunter Parish will probably ease the pain.

  • Julie Miller says:

That iced coffee should have had above-title billing the past five seasons. RIP.
