Can This New Thor Picture Turn the Buzz Around?

After a few uninspiring and overlit stills left Thor with a reputation as the movie that has the most to prove going into Comic-Con, Marvel has finally released a piece of art for the film that looks pretty freakin' kick-ass. Is there a catch? Well, maybe.

Technically, the new Thor Comic-Con poster (which shows the superhero battling his brother Loki) isn't an image from the film -- instead, it's concept art. Still, I'll take what I can get, as this is the first picture related to the film that conveys action, excitement, and movement. Couldn't Marvel have released this first instead of a series of shots that just show people standing around, swamped by enormous production design?

Fortunately, Captain America won't suffer that same mistake; it got a beautiful teaser poster too, which you can see below:

    That's more like it.

  • I think we're getting a bit too intense about these projects - the stills were just fine, thanks, giving us a quick glimpse of what's to come. To me, bad buzz doesn't really start until the trailer tanks ... or the casting news is just plain awful.

Sorry, but as a general rule, a movie never looks as good as its concept art.

exactly. there's never *anything* more misleading than concept art.
that being said, i haven't found anything wrong with the actual set photos and remain hopeful.
this movie has quality actors, a competent director, a healthy budget and (since it's part of the whole Avengers thing) a palpable sense of urgency to succeed.
so until word leaks that the studio is *not* happy with the final product or the trailer fails spectacularly, there's simply no justification (yet) to be worried.
