Dwayne Johnson Should Let The Rock Star in Faster
God bless Dwayne Johnson for the way he's broken free from his albatross-like WWE persona, but the admittedly talented actor might be making a big mistake with his latest screen credit. To wit: How can anyone but "The Rock" actually star in Faster?
Hitting theaters this Thanksgiving -- with "hitting" being the operative word -- the just-released teaser for the action film shows off what looks to be a throwback to the badass genre films of the grindhouse -- but without any of the pretensions that Robert Rodriguez or Quentin Tarantino brought to their own Grindhouse.
Johnson stars as an ex-con who goes off to avenge the death of his brother, all while being trailed by Billy Bob Thornton in a wig and a bunch of musclemen straight out of Central Casting. There are gunshots, bone breaks and car wrecks -- plus a sweaty Johnson pulsating out of his Hanes wifebeater like some tattooed version of Bruce Banner. Add in eye candy like Maggie Grace -- and the not-shown Moon Bloodgood and Carla Gugino -- and you've got the makings of a B-movie worthy of Joe Bob Briggs.
And yet, Faster is starring "Dwayne Johnson"? No, no, no, no! This is a movie that demands "The Rock," in all his eyebrow-raising, chair-smashing glory. CBS Films, get on this.
