Bryan Singer Talks Up Taylor Lautner and X-Men -- in Church
Bryan Singer dropped by Hollywood United Methodist Church on Sunday, when the church's ongoing "Crossflix" series featured a discussion of the religious and spiritual themes of the X-Men franchise. Which, as it always will these days, ultimately came down to, "Please, please, God, let Taylor Lautner be in our franchise reboot."
In addition to explaining the thematic roots of X-Men ("[It] was about people who feel disenfranchised and separate from the rest of the world, and that is what Stan Lee meant when he created the characters. Lee, who is Jewish, told me it was about persecution, and he also created it during the time of the Civil Rights movement.") and the Christ-like implications of Superman Returns ("He was a powerful being in human form with all the frailties and temptations"), Singer provided what may very well be the first Taylor Lautner "scoop" delivered in a house of God:
"I wanted Taylor [Lautner] to do it, I really did," Singer said in an exclusive interview. "He's doing a movie in Pittsburgh called Abduction and then he's got the next Twilight movie. We talked about it a lot, he is a friend, and I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn't look like it's possible to do it."
Singer also blew off rumors that he'd direct Wolverine 2, insisting he's starting Jack the Giant Killer next year in London. Fine. Enough with the churches, though! It's a little self-important, and anyway, The Coffee Bean will get jealous.

Taylor can't act, period. But what is the point of bringing up his name before shooting?
Singer is a homosexual isn't he?? There could be more things going on in closed doors. -
"He's a friend"? Cue the Singer/Lautner rumours (because 40 year old gay men and 18 year old boys have so much in common) in 3...2...
They could be like the gay Aaron Johnson and That Lady He's Banging.
Also, Taylor is a bad actor (love him tho) so, yeah.
Singer has also been quoted as having met Brandon Routh, and "looked up at him, and up, and up." Wanting to cast Lautner wouldn't have been the first time he let his little head do the thinking. And yes, Lautner is every bit as horrible an actor as Routh.
Gotta love that a church was actually discussing X-Men, and not on a film night, but on Sunday! Maybe next they can discuss the deep societal implications of Vinnie Chase shaving his head and still getting laid. Not that I'm judging, I'm agnostic so I don't care what you zany Christians do in your free time.
Brian, the Hollywood Methodist Church is a great place and filled with amazing people. In the summer, the lessons focus on a different movie each week and how that movie applies to the Bible and how we should be living our life. You should come one week, I know you want to yell from the mountaintops that you are "agnostic" but you might actually like it.
