Will Arnett on the Never-Happening Arrested Development Movie: 'It's Happening'

arrested-development-cast_225.jpgIf you gave up all hope that an Arrested Development movie was ever going to happen, here's some good news: While promoting his new Fox sitcom Running Wilde, Will Arnett tells GQ that it's definitely going to happen. Maybe. Hey! Wipe that doubting look off your face. There's a script!

Sorta. According to Arrested Development creator Mitch Hurwitz, "Believe it or not, [Arrested Development co-executive producer Jim Vallely and I] have started the script. We're taking a little abeyance while we get [Running Wilde] up and running. But it is our absolute next priority and we can't wait to do it." The boy who cried wolf has nothing on Mitch. Anyway, what does this script look like?

"We're changing some of the Bush references to Obama because we started it awhile ago. And the Bluths may not be vacationing in the Gulf of Mexico anymore. We also might have to recast the part of Uncle Mel, the former action movie star. But other than that we have a clear path [...] Believe it or not, I do not enjoy teasing our wonderful and devoted audience, which is one reason it appears that I've been so cagey about this. It's just that I don't want to promise what I can't deliver."

...says Hurwitz as he promises something he can't deliver. Clear path? Ha! Except for the busy schedules of the nine major principles and all! Ahem. Sorry... many times bitten, twice shy, y'know?

  • Come on. Not even MTV is beating this dead horse anymore. This is just another variation on the "yeah, we're all interested and they're sort of working on it, but nothing is official yet" line that has been driving this boring speculation for years.
I loved the show too, but it's time for everyone to move on.
