Join Kevin Kline and Paul Dano (and Movieline) for a Preview of The Extra Man!
A few weeks removed from the rip-roaring success of our Animal Kingdom screening, join Movieline and 92Y Tribeca for another splendid preview of another splendid Sundance '10 alum: the riotous The Extra Man, with star Kevin Kline in attendance! This is right around the corner, folks, so read on for full details and act now to attend. [UPDATE: Now co-star Paul Dano is coming, too! It's a party! You're invited!]
Adapted from the novel by Jonathan Ames by writing/directing team Robert Pulcini and Shari Springer Berman, The Extra Man features Kline in the title role as Henry Harrison -- a downmarket dandy attempting to upwardly leverage his status with some of Manhattan's wealthiest old women. Into his life -- and his shabby Upper East Side apartment -- walks Louis (Paul Dano), a young, lonely would-be Fitzgerald with a deep secret and an unrequited crush on his office mate (Katie Holmes). As the eccentric Henry takes Louis under his wing, one might be forgiven for wondering if it shouldn't be the other way around.
I tagged Extra Man as one of five films viewed in Park City that I'd hoped would find distribution sooner than later. Magnolia Pictures complied; the film opens at the end of the month, but New Yorkers can get an early look this coming Tuesday, July 20, at 92Y Tribeca. Kline [and Dano, per late-breaking update!] will be on hand to take your most informed, intimate questions. Well, maybe not intimate, but... you know. Jesus, ask anything, just attend. We will see you there!
