Is Mark Ruffalo About to Become The Hulk in The Avengers?

markruffalo_225.jpgMaybe you won't have to wait until Comic-Con to find out who's going to replace Edward Norton in The Avengers. According to Deadline, Marvel is in "late stage talks" with -- wait for it -- Mark Ruffalo! Because if there is one audience that has been woefully under-marketed to when it comes to comic book movies, it's indie film lovers.

If Ruffalo signs on the dotted line -- something that would likely be a coup for his new agency United Talent, even with Marvel's notorious tight pockets -- he'll join Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johannson, Chris Hemsworth and possibly Jeremy Renner in the cast of Joss Whedon's film. But regardless of what happens here, it's clear that Marvel has a specific "type" in mind for Bruce Banner (see also: Eric Bana, Norton). If the Ruffalo deal falls through, Jon Hamm should expect a phone call.

I like this choice! Ruffalo would be great as The Hulk!

Matt, who do you want to see as The Hulk? Seth Rogen??? : )

For inspiration during the rage scenes he will be shown still photos of his mutton-chops from "Zodiac".

I like Ruffalo but I don't seem him as Banner at all. His style of acting and his usual "quirks" really don't mesh with the character.

  • Mark Ruffalo is one of my fave actors but I can't see him as The Hulk... THE INCREDIBLE HULK.
And yeah, @ZooeyGlass1999, his style of acting doesn't fit in with our description of the big, strong, green-colored character we grow up seeing on TV.
But, let's give Mark Ruffalo the benefit of the doubt. He might pull it off and we might be surprised. I mean, Mark, after all, is a good actor. And him playing The Hulk might be surprising for us, but let's see what he can do.
