Hollywood Ink: Julia Roberts and Ryan Murphy Reunited and Feeling Good

juliaroberts_225.jpg· Never mind that Eat, Pray, Love doesn't hit theaters for another month -- Sony is so happy with the product and the working relationship between Julia Roberts and director Ryan Murphy that they've gone all-in with the duo again on a pitch for an untitled romantic comedy. In the film, Roberts would play a working mother who loses her job and is forced to raise the kids while her previously stay-at-home husband heads to work. So, Mrs. Mom. Murphy gets a $5 million deal (half for writing, half for directing) and Roberts will probably get her standard fee. The bigger question: Why don't these two just team up on an episode of Glee and get it over with already? [Deadline]

Nailed gets nailed, Doug Liman goes on a quest and more Hollywood Ink ahead.

· Hey, remember Nailed, the David O. Russell political satire with Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal that has seemingly been filming for the better part of the last three years? Yeah, well, it's kinda finished. Russell has quit the project because he wasn't happy that the producers were being "squeezed" to cut their fees in half by financiers Ronald Tutor and hopeful Miramax buyer David Bergstein. A new director will be brought on to finish the project and partake in some reshoots. Said Russell in a statement: "The multiple production delays and stoppages, which were caused by David Bergstein and preceded Ron Tutor's direct involvement with me, have now spanned two years, and the circumstances under which the film would now be completed are much different on several fundamental levels than when we embarked several years ago. I, unfortunately, am no longer involved in the project and cannot call it 'my' film. I wish Ron Tutor well." All together now: Alan Smithee credit! [THR]

· Fair Game director Doug Liman has possibly lined up his next project. He's attached to an adaptation of The Last of the Tribe: The Epic Quest to Save a Lone Man in the Amazon from Washington Post correspondent Monte Reel. The film would "chronicle the search for the last surviving member of an Amazon tribe from the perspective of the government agents charged with both verifying his existence and preserving his way of life." And you thought that Avatar sequel was going to take 10 years to make. [Variety]

· According to Production Weekly, Lora Kennedy has begun casting on The Wachowski Brothers next project, the clearly-getting-a-title-change CN9. You'll recall that's their futuristic Iraq war gay love story movie that may or may not star Arianna Huffington. Let's all hope for 3D. [Production Weekly]

· Considering there are planned adaptations of Battleship, Monopoly and maybe even Strawberry Shortcake in the works, that Disney is going ahead with a movie about stone gargoyles coming to life doesn't seem that ridiculous. Lauren Shuler Donner and Jack Leslie will produce and Zoe Green is in talks to develop the story, which is currently a bit...stiff. Ding! [THR/Heat Vision]

· And because it wouldn't be a trade update without some Ridley Scott news, the ubiquitous director and his brother Tony will produce Archangels, a sci-fi romp about a group of agents who battle aliens secretly living amongst us. Tron Legacy helmer Joe Kosinski is attached to direct. [Variety]

  • NP says:

Fingers crossed for that Wachowski movie. Would love to see them make something good again.
p.s. Movieline! Looking good--love the new look!

  • SunnydaZe says:

Yes, the new look is better organized and very sleek!
One question> Is Main Event only one page? As much as I like the divided categories, I would also like to be able to read Movieline old-school...

  • The Winchester says:

This new design frightens and arouses me.
    There, I said it.

  • stolidog says:

    I don't love it.
    There, I said it.

  • SunnydaZe says:

Hey, how did you get a box around your comment?

  • Yes, Sunnydaze! My one gripe with the New Look (TM) is that there is no button to page through the main page. You seem to be able to on the individual channels, though. Inconvenient!

  • Damn you for taking my inaugural "Comment of the Moment" away from me so soon! I barely got to enjoy it! *shakes fist*

  • SunnydaZe says:

Oh, that's how he got a box around his comment!

  • SunnydaZe says:

Click, click, click, CLICK, CLICK, CLICK!!! Where is that post I said something witty and or stupid and or possibly offensive on??? DAMN IT!!!

  • NP says:

I understand the desire for Movieline OldSkool, but I think I will enjoy having the organized categories better ultimately. /librarian

  • sweetbiscuit says:

Me neither. Can't just page back to see older posts? More ad crowding. Ugh.

  • SunnydaZe says:

We can have both. All they have to do is add a "NEXT" button on the Main Page.

  • Dimo says:

I've had a little time to play around. My only gripe is that I can't access posts from earlier in the day. This is a big issue for me. There are many times when I can't get on here until the evening. (I only eat once a day now...to try and fit in more ML time) I DON'T WANT TO MISS ALL THE FUN!

  • SunnydaZe says:

It really does sorta feel like Christmas around here with all the new goodies!

  • The Winchester says:

Don't blame me, man, I don't work here.
(Though if Kyle and/or Stu are reading, I'm totally willing to accept paychecks and/or kickbacks)
Congrats to you Bourgeois Nerd on your inaugural "Comment of the Moment". I'm sorry to take away your moment. *Genuflecting before you*

  • The Winchester says:

    Agreed.
    And I concur.

  • SunnydaZe says:

There is a Santa after all> WE GOT OUR "NEXT" BUTTON! All is right with the world... For now...

  • Very well. I accept your genuflection, and congratulate you on being the second "Comment of the Moment."

  • stolidog says:

    yes, tis the problem
