Whoopi Goldberg Defends Mel Gibson: 'He's Not a Racist'
Mel Gibson scored his first major defender today in Whoopi Goldberg, who says she's spent enough time with the disgraced actor to know that his racial slurs that have come to light are misleading. "I don't like what he did here, but I know Mel and I know he's not a racist," Goldberg said on The View. That didn't sit well with Joy Behar -- or most people in the entire world, I'm supposing. Of course, this comes not long after Goldberg's infamous "rape-rape" comment defending Roman Polanski's wrongdoings. Yikes. Whoopi, when it comes to credibility, you in danger, girl.

Yeah, this is like defending Roman Polanski against rape charges by saying that his movies were good.

She had a valid point when she noted his slurs were not "race" race.
I said it before, there is a big difference between thinking and doing. Mel Gibson may have racists thinking, but there is no record of him acting against blacks. I know I cannot control a person's thoughts. I also tend to assume that whites are racist (why Mel G's rantings don't shock me) but unless they act against me--I'm cool. Very few white people are in a position to affect my life negatively so why should I care what they have in their heads?
What concerns me though is the negative tongue lashing women are getting on the posts on the subject of Mel Gibson especially the praise of his hitting her, and the suggestions that he kill her. This is coming from black men, white men, and other women. WOAH!
Whoopi also refuses to use the salutation "Ms". We all have our blindsides. Also, Whoopi Goldberg knows the worst kind of racism--she has personal, painful knowledge of it. BLACK people called her ugly, and too 'black', and attacked her person for years and years. Not even Oprah, who she acted with has shown her any respect. She knows what racist is, trust me!

I sometimes completely disagree with Whoopi Goldberg, especially on the Polanski issue, but she's dead on concerning this one. Blacks are not the only race/culture of people with a crappy, demeaning name against them, and because of a few ambulance chasers in the black and liberal community, people are sadly more concerned about one word that he uttered in rage as suppose to the defamatory, disgusting remarks he said to the mother of his child. It saddens me as a female to see that the media is okay with a man talking to his partner in such a repulsive manner, but goes right for the race card at any possible chance.
I don't believe he is racist, but it appears he IS an abuser.
I've heard far worse (from both blacks and whites) verbally - sadly.
And some are racist - many - in fact.
But I really Mel Gibson has a serious anger issue and the real problem seems to be his violence.
Once all is said and done - and there will be an investigation - I believe the allegations of domestic violence - which he seemed to admit to doing ("you deserved it") - after she said he beat her, while she was holding their infant child, knocked her in the head and broke out two teeth.
I think it's clear he has an issue with domestic violence -- foul language and using the "n" word like JAY Z and P-DIDDY are the least of his problems. He got 99 and yep....a "b" seems to be one -- including himself.
Mel is a great man and his "slurs" were taken out of contests. He was misunderstood again.

Before he made the bigoted comments about Jews, Blacks, and Women, I STOPPED patronizing Mel Gibson movies years ago when he made anti-gay comments. To every individual (including the NAACP and JEWISH groups) who have commented or complained about Mel Gibson's bigoted comments about Blacks, Jews, and Women, but did not have an issue with his anti-gay comments years ago, you also should have stopped patronizing his movies years ago when he made the ani-gay comments. When will you LEARN that when you sit back and be silent and continue to support people who are BIGOTS just because they are not being bigoted against YOUR own group, it is WRONG. And usually, it is just a matter of time before that BIGOT will demonstrate or voice his (or her) TRUE hateful feelings about your own group. So please, to any of you who did not have an issue with his anti-gay comments, STOP being SELECTIVE with your OUTRAGE. Yes, I agree he was wrong for the negative comments he made about Blacks, Jews, and Women, but he was just as wrong for the anti-gay comments that spewed from his mouth. Bigotry directed towards any group (i.e. race, gender, sexual orientation, religious, diabled, etc.) when ignored and accepted, is an injustice to ALL groups, and it re-inforces to the BIGOT that they can continue with their bigotry against ANY GROUP without negative consequences. DON'T patronize this what appears to be racist, anti-gay, anti-semitic, misogynistic BIGOT'S movies, and maybe, just maybe, this (apparent PIG) will realize that when he is financially broke and living in a f**king tree house, he may see that his pattern of hate-filled tirades about other groups is wrong and have not benefited him in ANY way.

I think Whoopi's right here. People always say hurtful things in anger. It doesn't meant they believe them---though, on the other hand, sometimes it does. But one has to give the benefit of the doubt until proven wrong.
Well im white/indian and I am shocked by that youtube video i saw with the New Black Panther Party calling for the murder of Cracker Babies. I think that anyone spilling that hate speech should remind themselves that God loves all people no matter what color because we were all made in his image. Its just a shame that so many people hate eachother and it gets publicised. My best friends are black white and my girl is puerto rican. My son is blonde hair blue eyed. I will never side with a Russian gold digger. Some of our biggest stars are racist but it is acceptable by the Hollywood community, (Michael Douglass, Harrison Ford, and many others) Just as we tell blacks to stop whinning, Jews and Gays need to do the same. Irish Catholics are the only people who do not whine and make a big deal over things. One of the biggest agents in Hollywood (Ari Emmauel) rants and calls every name in the book to every race of people but if you say something about a Jewish person he tries to blacklist you. Mel Gibson has not been treated fairly, that gold digger baited him and set him up, she knew the tape was running so she played innocent. As for anger management, most of Hollywood has that problem front and behind the camera.

Unless I missed something, she didn't "defend him" per se. She said she has been friends with him and knows him in a different light than the public. In fact, she said he was an a$$________. That's pretty direct. I know some too. I just choose to keep the ones I know at arm's length. The ex does seem to be a golddigger. One baby by one star and another baby by yet another star? Uh, come on. Men need to grow up and start thinking with the head attached to their neck instead of with that other one. Be with someone your own age so you can have someone who knows what you're talking about. And stop having babies by babies. That's gross.
