What's On: Tip It, Kathleen!

maggiegriffin225.jpgTonight, Kathy Griffin branches out in her quest to stay wealthy, even calling upon her favorite financial analyst of all time. Her mother Maggie also gets in on the D-List comedienne's plans for a windfall, securing at least one extraordinary deal. Hint: The picture on this page is not phony. After six years of sad inactivity, it is finally time to renew my library card.

Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List [Bravo, 9 PM]

Kathy enlists the help of Suze Orman to help increase her income (which is totes necessary, I'm sure) and tries to find ways to capitalize on her mother's fame, including a book deal and fashion line. This episode may force me to coin a new phrase for shark-jumping called "wine box-tipping."

America's Got Talent [NBC, 9 PM]

The search continues to finalize the Top 48 at the Palms in Vegas. I hope a subtler talent like Michael Grimm outlasts a mildly amusing light show like Fighting Gravity. Things need to stop glowing in the dark, guys.

Wipeout [ABC, 8 PM]

Yes, Wipeout is an un-ironic ripoff of Most Extreme Elimination Challenge, but tonight they bring us course obstacles called Blob Launch, Trampoline Shape Shifters, and Bruiseball with Dodgeballs. The B-movie titles are a little enticing, don't you think? Let's not tell our pretentious friends.

Sister Act [Encore, 8 PM]

Whoopi Goldberg hides in a convent after she witnesses a murder involving her boyfriend. Confession: I didn't realize that Maggie Smith played Mother Superior until just now. Yes, she (and Whoopi) are Oscar winners who are probably above this material, but this is certainly more entertaining than California Suite and Ghost. Trust me.

Regarding America's Got Talent and Fighting Gravity, I just finished posting the following on the group's website (http://www.fightingravity.com/2010/06/thank-you.html#comments). I think it ought to be of interest to all those believe in the spirit of the competition:
The name of the crew you "drew inspiration from" is called Expression crew, no "s".
I find it outrageous that you are on a show called America's Got Talent when so much of your performance involves the flat out theft of the work of another group. To compete on a show about homegrown talent and to essentially copy the work of another group is downright shameful.
If you believe crediting the group you've copied -- on your website only and with errors no less -- as "an inspiration" is exculpatory, I believe you are mistaken. To claim their talent as your own is a lie. If you truly buy into the spirit of the competition, you should make it your duty to point out where the true talent lies, and to give proper credit where it is due, on air and to America.
