Man Dies at Eclipse Screening

twilight_eclipse_100.jpgAn unidentified 23-year-old New Zealand man was found dead Sunday night following a screening of Eclipse. Police in Wellington say the man had attended alone and was discovered slumped over in his seat when the lights came up; paramedics' attempts to revive him were unsuccessful. This is the first reported Twilight-related death since the movie franchise launched a little less than two years ago, but it shouldn't be the last; fans are expected to die in two parts as well as in 3-D when Breaking Dawn emerges a year from now. Autopsy reports say that he died of boredom.

Right on the money, dying is hilarious! Like when Heath Ledger died! And Randy Pausch! ROTFLMAO death!

Really? Making light of someone's death? Is that appropriate?

  • BARF says:

    Classy as always, STV.

  • Jouin says:

Oh is death a taboo subject now? the more you know!
People should stop with their boring pc-ness and the sanctimonious dignity of someone dying.

This just in: A recent death at a Twilight movie screening makes Kristen Stewart feel like she's been personally violated.

  • @barf: You're kidding, right? You just made me type "@barf"!
Anyway, a single 23-year-old male dying at Eclipse is funny in so many contexts. Even if you don't think this post is funny, which is totally fine, don't pretend to be above it. Because no one -- or at least no one here, @barf -- believes you.

I for one come to ML for high-minded and revealing details that appeals to the cineaste mindset. This kind of gutteral mockery is a dysphoric attempt at drollery. Now please, dispense with this sophmoric jocularity and tell us when "Human Centipede" will be released by The Criterion Collection.

  • Sooner than you probably think (or want)!

sad that this passes as a funny story these days. A young man died, i'm sure his family thinks this article is hilarious. Imagine this was a friend or family member of yours and if you're still laughing you have some real serious problems. wow! just stunned this was actually not thrown in the garbage the minute it was presented.

People need to get off their high horse, it is indeed funny in so many contexts. When I pass, feel free to crack a joke. I'd rather have people happy and joking than sad and depressed. I always find it funny that people feel the need to rush to someones defense or state how terrible it is... jokes people, just jokes.
