The Eat, Pray, Love Trailer: Dig In

eatpraylove.jpgThough she had a small supporting role in the jam-packed Valentine's Day, Julia Robert hasn't had a starring role since her (actually-quite-good) bomb Duplicity. But J.Ro is back with the film adaptation of the smash book Eat, Pray, Love, and Sony has released another trailer for the likely hit. So what's on the menu for Julia's this time?

Well, I'm not sure that I'm the target audience here. To my eyes, it just looks like some travelogue porn gussied up with a patina of Intro to Eastern Civilization Cliff Notes. And I've never quite cottoned to the "Navel-Gazing Pretty White Woman Has First-World Problems" genre; the movie looks a bit like a less labia-centric Sex and the City movie.

But! The book has been on the New York Times bestseller list for more than 140 weeks for a reason. The book has an enormous fanbase, as does Julia Roberts -- and she's got fans who are dying to see her return to her romantic movie roots.

VERDICT: Mixed -- I'll give it a pass but I'm sure my mom is already in line.

really hoping there's a scene where she dances around and sings into a hairbrush. that would complete me.

I'm not the target audience for this either, but to be fair, most American movies are about people with first-world problems. And for some reason, this looks interesting to me.
Duplicity was very good, such a shame it never caught on. I will say that movie's only problem was Clive Owen being cast instead of George Clooney. Clooney just knows how to deliver dialogue like that, and Clive is good, but he just isn't charming.

I really wish at this stage in her career Roberts would say, "Screw it! I'm not going to play 'Julia Roberts' anymore but be the character." Alas, this looks to have all the tried and true Roberts mannerisms. *Sigh*

Let us see- every creed / color of actors all over the TV now -even the network's are mixing couples now- seems to me you have a problem with color my person - let the anger go - get the best revenge by living well....

  • loran says:

I was looking at your picture - it shows anger - why are you angry? you need to be smiling , you are earning a living , by writing and sharing your thoughts with kids and adults- put on a happy face and teach people how to enjoy life - stop trying to look like an angry street gang member-

Duplicity would have been great if they spent more time with Julia and Clive and less on the corporate stuff, that was actually dull in comparison to their impressive chemistry. As for this thing... I don't think so.
