Unbreakable and Signs were is last good films in my opinion. Although I do find Happening fun.
I have not seen the film, but this review makes you seem somewhat ignorant of the subject matter.
The material it's based on is excellent - for all ages in fact. The only requirement is that you be a Sci-fi/Fantasy fan.
Why review subjects you obviously have no clue about?
I'll have to disagree with JEFFH. The fact that Stephanie doesn't know the source material makes her point of view important. I have only a passing knowledge of The Last Airbender (my 11 year old son isn't interested). I was interested in the movie, but I haven't seen the cartoon. Stephanie's point is a good one: if you don't know the source material, you should probably bring someone who does (which is most likely a child). She wasn't saying it was a kid's movie.
Or perhaps Shyamalan actually wanted his movie to be inaccessible by anyone who hasn't seen the TV show?
There are adults with children that know the material . . . .I. for one, have an 8 year old daughter and know the cartoon well. This was a great movie in my opinion. They did many things right; cast, sets, videography and costumes. The script was taken straight from the cartoon . . . made it easier for mer to follow, but Shakespeare, it is not.
the script straight from the cartoon? not quiet... i did however like the movie because it wasnt the same exact storyline as the cartoon and i think alot of others would as well if the cartoon and the movie were more spread out... if this movie was made 10 years from now, more ppl would have loved it
Do you even know anything about movies? I'm sorry i don't want to be mean but you should not be allowed to review a movie simply because you watched it.
The original cartoon was an amazing story that had incredible character development and followed a powerful storyline. The cartoon may have been one of the few animated series that was an excellent story regardless of age.
M. Night Shyamalan's the last airbender was an atrocity, not only did it not take anything more than the basic plot from the original but it lost all of its groundbreaking material in the process. The casting was terrible and the 3D was lackluster which is impressive with characters who wield several elements around the screen.
Unfortunately, Hollywood has decided to continue to give this director chance after chance, even though he has proven that his once promising career is no more. As for this review again I'm sorry but touting a movie as made for kids is no excuse for this sad no talent film. I mean did you watch the movie or the trailer?
I liked this movie, regardless of the cartoon series.
Watch Airbender the way you'd watch Jason and The Argonauts, and you'll see what M. was going for.
