Hollywood Ink: Meryl Streep Has Her Eye on Margaret Thatcher
· It was only a matter of time before someone came up with a biopic of Margaret Thatcher, and it had to be only a little while after that when Meryl Streep would be involved. So here we are: The first lady of American screen acting is in talks to portray the former British Prime Minister in Thatcher, which would take place in the 17 days leading up to the Falklands War in 1982. Jim Broadbent would play her husband Denis. At the moment Streep's Mamma Mia! director Phyllida Lloyd is linked as well; let's complete the flashback circle and have Chris Klein wastedly audition as Ronald Reagan. [THR]
Sean Penn contemplates catching another wave, Sam Worthington adds a job title, and more Hollywood Ink after the jump.
· Sean Penn is likely to join a biopic of surfing legend "Doc" Paskowitz, the 89-year-old who left his medical practice in the '60s to undertake a nomadic surfing existence with his wife and nine children. The story was told a few years back in the documentary Surfwise, but Paskowitz was reportedly reluctant to sell his life rights for a feature adaptation until Penn came along. Which still doesn't mean it'll ever get made, but hey. It's a start. [Variety]
· Sam Worthington is getting deeper into producing, with his Full Clip Productions partnering with Radical Studios on "an imprint deal to create and develop intellectual property that would be published with an eye toward screen adaptations." Translation: They're getting into the graphic novel business. [THR]
· This is weird: Former MLB outfielder David Justice has been replaced as... himself in Moneyball. The role will now go to Stephen Bishop. [THR]
· Heather Graham will play the crazy, zany Aunt Opal in a screen adaptation of the popular kids' book Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer. Aw. Wacky auntie Julia Roberts wasn't available? [Variety]
