Our Commenters of the Week Get to Fire Jason Segel from How I Met Your Mother
Finally, a "Commenters of the Week" prize that satisfies the needs of How I Met Your Mother haters and Up in the Air fans: Our five winning commenters will get to write off or just fire bored thespian Jason Segel and free him from his multicamera manacles. You can do it in person or using Movieline's efficient fire-by-Skype technology. And you are allowed to embrace your best Ryan Bingham impersonation and employ the aid of a bemused monotone. See, this is about your artistic freedom as much as it's about Jason's. So, who wins the prize?
· Joe on The 9 Most Scathing Critical Responses to Grown Ups: "When can we expect the rave review from Armond White?
· Old No. 7 on Deadliest Catch Turns Stroke Into Gold: "Shoulda been you, The Hills."
· Dimo on Bristol Palin's Acting Debut: What's Her Motivation?: "If only she had written her lines on her palm."
· Bourgeois Nerd on Live Through Her: Courtney Love Rejuvenates Behind the Music: "Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist? There's a blast from the past! The only show daring enough to show what the world would look like if everyone in the world was Katharine Hepburn, in animation form."
· Colander on Meet Kenny Wormald, Your New Footloose Lead: "I was sold by the stoner-face screen-grab, but shirtless twirling is fun too."
Congrats to our winners!

Yay! Thanks, guys!
Seriously Louis, I think I owe you a steak dinner.
I nominate S. T. Vanairsdale for the next wave of Commenters of the Week.
I believe with Stu we will see a serious comment win every now and then. Maybe an insightful comment. If you really want people taking your posts more seriously why always reward the one-liners?
I also miss when Kyle would give a bat shit comment a top spot.
I love Old No. 7, Dimo, Stoli Dog, The Winchester, Sweet Biscuit but there are so many other commenters who deserve attention.
Look, I know I am being ignored at this point... because I care enough about this site to use the comment section for what it was invented for> to comment; good or bad. I am honored that I am worth ignoring. I continue to comment here because I have a fan base of industry people who enjoy my stuff. I worked hard to bring attention to your site. I personally know several of the original editors of the original Movieline Magazine. I have history with this IP.
In retrospect. I wish there wasn't a Commenter of the Week because it turns this whole thing into a joke contest.
BTW, if this is my last comment it is because I have been banned. I have no intention of stopping with my comments...
I dunno. I feel really pretty right now.
It was for this exact reason I stopped visiting Pajiba.com; I don't mind being ignored or having my comments at least not responded to by Kyle or Stu or whoever, but when certain commenters are singled out time and again for their pithy, throwaway lines, it makes me begin to wonder whether my incessant shilling of the site elsewhere is otherwise appreciated.
Not to knock the material of the 'funny' guys, it's just disheartening sometimes to see the same schtick celebrated week in, week out.
All that said, who gives a shit what some dude who labels himself as 'Quirky' thinks? Onto the next Jersey Shore update!
Your points re the COTW selection process are duly noted.
Speaking solely for myself, please don't take it personally if I don't mix it up very often in the comments. I love all our readers and appreciate your time spent commenting here, and I'm always happy when a story stimulates a conversation. But my general philosophy is that -- on my posts, at least -- I've had my say, and now the floor is open to you. It's kind of old-school, I guess, but there you have it.
And: Intelligent commenting is time-consuming! And between helping to run the site every day and decompressing with a drink or 50, I don't have a lot of it! Seriously, nothing personal.
Thanks, Sunny. As noted with Quirky, I don't take your readership, comments or support for granted.
I can only write so much! I am not likely to win any COTW rings any time soon.
For what it's worth, it is never my intention to "win" the coveted commentator of the week. I just enjoy writing pithy, snarky one liners in regards to this ridiculous business of entertainment that we all come here to both celebrate and takedown in equal measure. It's kinda my thing.
It's a far better comment community here than the trolls and lunatics at other sites, who only contribute to themselves and their egos, never paying much attention when anybody does actually have something of value to add to the conversation. I enjoy the mood and the people here, and I do agree that we could be a little more on point than just trying to make it a quip of the week contest.
(Though we do that rather well, if I do say so myself).
My point is, I love this site. I love the people, both the people who write for it, and the people comment about it. And I'm all about more intelligent discourse, provided the wit and snark never leaves.
You are pretty and witty and wise.
You keep me returning to this site so I hope you write more...
I care.
I give a shit.
Please ban this troll.
I personally don't see what the big fucking problem is.
A Taco Bell burrito is your problem.
Thank you Winch...you have my feelings on this matter right in your sights. BTW, Sunny D...I hear your argument loud and clear, and I appreciate your passion. Don't ever leave.
Sorry Stu & fellow commenters,
A couple of glasses of red wine and having to euthanize our adored and pampered kitty, Harry, yesterday should have alerted me to the fact that I shouldn't have been allowed near a computer.
I really do enjoy most of the articles you guys take the time to write for the site and the comments - pithy or not - are always eminently enjoyable, and as The Winchester says, we should be thankful for the comments here that are generally troll-free and intelligent (barring those that stem from those that wander in at the hint of Twilight bashing or any other 'controversial' topic). I'm not against the COTW thing, it's just that after a while it starts to feel clique-y to those of us who comment fairly frequently but are never mentioned. Christ, I'm sounding whinier than I intended. I don't even know how to word it really...
Sorry if I sounded like a whiney douche in my previous response and keep up the great work everyone.
SO help me Odin, I will come to your house and pwn your a$$, noob. LOL.
(I have no idea what I just wrote)
For what it's worth, I would gladly give back every week won if the fuckin Entourage ads and movie reviews wouldn't autoplay on every page click.
Please don't make me switch to Safari! I hate it.
Please don't get me wrong> I love the funny; look at my avatar. I just like to see a little variety in the winners section. Sometime way back I think I gave the impression I was complaining because I didn't win Commenter of the Week when what I was really trying for was more variety from the winners. I haven't won since those complaints and feel like I am in the dog house. I have tried to leave the site but keep finding myself back here. I am resigned to the fact I may never win again but I still check in to see who does and it still verges on repetitive. That is what frustrates me.
Plus, I meant to say that Stu is ONE of the main reasons I keep returning to this site. There are many, many reasons I love it here.
Sorry to hear about your loss, Quirky. And no> You don't sound like a whiny douche. I would like to think you made me sound LESS like one....
Thanks, as always, Dimo. Glad to see your winning streak!
If you come to my house you won't even get past my mom! She'll kick your ass!!
Google Chrome, bro.
I think one reason you don't win very often is that you usually post replies to people's comments (which are very funny) rather than do an original comment, and I don't think replies get put in the COTW cesspool for consideration.
Thanks for the compliment. It is nice to hear. Not so much that my comments are funny (although, WEEE!) but that I exist at all.
I would really like a do over... I don't need the justification of COTW to prove I am funny. I don't think that is what any of us regulars want. I think we want to be noticed every now and then so we feel like part of the club. After my rants, new winners started to show up in the top five, which was amazing but then they started to win as regularly as the old names. (Then I missed some of the old winners when they stopped commenting)
This all wouldn't be so damn important if we actually had profiles to communicate to each other with instead of having to use COTW as a forum. I hope it is appreciated by the editors that I only mention this stuff with-in COTW. No reason to bring it out onto the playing field.
I do replies alot because I comment on what grabs me and many times the bat shit comments are my favorite. I love 'em.
Plus, I love when us regulars acknowledge each other. I think it is what makes Movieline distinct.
I know the editors bust their ass to make this happen and I know it isn't fun and games but I also know I am taking time out of my busy day to write this or any other comment I bring to the table.
I personally think the regulars are as much a part of the success of Movieline as the posts but maybe I am bat shit... Most likely.
