New Trailer Imagines Young Barack Obama as Original Karate Kid

This is kind of spellbinding: A filmmaker in Indonesia has co-opted Barack Obama's rough youthful stopover in that country as a launching pad for ripping off The Karate Kid. But with boxing gloves. And as a new international trailer suggests, the movie -- Little Obama -- is just as head-exploding as it sounds.

I'll just get out of the way and hand it over to Damian Dematra, the writer-director who based the film on his own novel of the same name. Dematra's got shooting mostly down, and the kid he cast as young "Barry" could no doubt grow up to play the president as an adult. In fact, if there's anything to take from this trailer, it's that young people should never sacrifice their ambition to work hard, dream big, and truly fight for that opportunity to get slagged by their subordinates someday in Rolling Stone.
