Movieline Stages the First Sing-Off Between Lea Michele and Glee's Newest Star, Charice

LeaCharice225.jpgThis just in: Glee's most vocally talented cast member, Lea Michele, will finally have some competition next season when international pop talent Charice joins Ryan Murphy's series. According to EW, the musical prodigy will guest star as a foreign exchange student who competes with Michele's character for the New Directions' spotlight. Instead of waiting until September to see the ladies compete for the McKinley High crown, Movieline has staged what will inevitably be the first of many overly dramatic sing-offs -- and since Schue is currently unavailable, we are enlisting you, dear readers, to declare the round one winner.

Below, live performances which showcase both starlets' extraordinary vocal ranges, star power and appreciation for Oscar-nominated soundtracks. In the first clip, 18-year-old Charice, whom Oprah declared the "Most Talented Girl in the World," performs a medley from The Bodyguard featuring "I Have Nothing" and "I Will Always Love You." In the second clip, Lea Michele performs "Don't Rain On My Parade" at this year's Tonys.

Both artists are very good, this would make GLEE bigger than already is with new cast and millions of new fans. Go Charice and Lea Michele! Kudos to the producers brilliant move!

  • Charice on Glee! What a great news!!!!

    OMG.....Charice on Glee, perfect!

  • LMS says:

Both are awesome. But I had goosebumps with Charice's version of the Bodyguard Medley, she owns the song, every single fiber of her petite body is into the song. Cheers to an even more interesting second season of Glee!

  • robert says:

I think they are both great!
I don't watch the show but since Charice will be on, I will NOW!!! yeah!!!!

  • Christopher Rosen says:

Sorry Oprah, no one messes with Lea Michele.

  • anonymously says:

they are both great singers and unique in their own individual way...it's not fair to compare the two

  • WebScribes says:

Glee is adding another stellar talent to their wonderful cast. The new season of Glee is going to be amazing! Charice usually wears little make-up and looks even younger than 18.
    .
The cast will love Charice as she is as nice and good-natured as she is talented.

  • Tina says:

I both singers. I can't wait for Fall season shows to start.

  • Resonance says:

Both are phenomenal singers. It is not logical to "compare" the two. I have a feeling when all is said and done, the two will be BFFs and sing lovely duets for all to enjoy.

  • soccerboy says:

First of all, they're both A-MAZING. Full stop.
But most importantly GLEE is not a concert, it's a MUSICAL. Can Charice act? While she's singing? Becase Lea Michele is tony nominations proving she can act and sing at the same time. That's what's required in a musical - the ability to tell a story.

  • pinkyt says:

Wait, is this one of the new characters that have been mentioned, or yet another addition/guest star? If the latter, then - "meh".
    I guess I am old/out of touch/living under a rock, b/c I don't have a clue who this Charice girl is.

  • US Idol says:

Both are very wonderful singers. However, I have to say that Charice's voice is bigger, fuller and stronger.

  • POM2POM says:

Charice can sing about anything even rap. She also has some great dance moves. I don't watch Glee but now that she will be on next season I will definitely start watching.

  • mary ann says:

The difference is Charice got a standing ovation and the other one didn't.

  • jujume says:

...yes, standing ovation wherever part of the world she performs!
great for an 18 yr old. she's probably the best LIVE singer out there right now!...but i don't mind watching her in the boobtube...
    can't wait!

  • 4x4 says:

can kate hudson, nicole kidman and penelope cruz sing????? yes! and yet they are actors thruout their careers...

  • Pat says:

Charice fans are even more obsessed than Gleeks. This season may become scary.

  • manny george says:

Sorry to disappoint you Chris. Lea's vocal prowess could be at par with Charice'. You're right. Charice could'nt mess up with Lea coz she's not a mess. Her vocal range is far more melodious than Lea.'s.

  • jen says:

One thing I love about Lea is that she enunciates!
Charise has power in her voice no doubt but the words all sound like she's got a mouth full of cotton or the end of words are slurred off!
It is hard to compare since they are both talented, but personal preference, Lea Michelle FTW.

  • Anne says:

She's just a recurring role, like J. Groff. They're finding three unknowns to add to the cast as permanent Glee members, I believe.

  • Christy says:

Ugh, no. I don't like her voice at all. She sounds all butch and muffled, for all she has power to her voice. Don't need her on Glee.

  • C says:

This Charice girl is crazy good. This performance is not the best to judge her by because she's totally imitating Whitney Houston's voice. Look her up on youtube, she's insanely good. Example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT_Oosh99tM

  • opragrl27 says:

None of those women can actually sing well.
Charice has a great natural voice but in this performance she's just using it to ape Whitney Houston's sound, and to get her voice to that sound she's using terrible technique. Her tongue is up, she's closed off, and she's nasal. My guess is she'll sound better on Glee, but for now there's no comparison - Lea Michelle is a much, much better singer.
