Voyage of the Dawn Treader Trailer: Do Not Mess With Tilda Swinton

swinton_narnia_225And you thought Harry Potter was the only British children's book adaptation hitting theaters this year! The first trailer for the next chapter in the Chronicles of Narnia series has hit the Web, and amid all the talking lions and glowing swords, there is one thing that cannot be debated: Tilda Swinton will haunt your dreams.

And that's a good thing too, since the basic premise of The Voyage of the Dawn Treader -- which sounds like "Dog Trainer" when the big-voice guy says it at the end of the trailer -- is that there is basically nothing wrong. As one of the characters says: "If there are no wars to fight, then why are we here?" Short answer: So Walden Media can make at least another half-billion globally. Alternative answer: Because the heroes need to be "tested."

That's where Swinton comes in, all mysterious and threatening and glowing -- is there anything she can't make look great? Liam Neeson returns as well, as the voice of Aslan, the talking lion. It all looks perfectly Narnia-y, which means fans should be excited. Though you have to wonder: With The Deathly Hallows hitting theaters on Nov. 15, how much cash will be left for Narnia when it opens less than a month later?

VERDICT: Sold.

I didn't know they were continuing this franchise... I thought the second one was a big enough flop (financially) to put a hold on any future adaptations? Guess not...

Flop or not, they have my money. This was my favorite of the Narnia books (well, maybe tied with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Last Battle), and I need to escape my miserable adult existence.

Tilda Swinton always haunts my dreams.
    Since 1993.
Off topic, how do I got that obnoxious ad on the right to not start up and scare the hell out of me every time I click on a page?

  • Emperor Norton says:

I despise what they did to the first one. What twaddle and explodey nonsense they threw into it. Yick.
For this one, I have to ask, where's Eustace? Come on!
I so wish this series had been produced by anyone else.
