Liam Neeson Only Interested in 'Believable' Taken Sequel
Someone get Liam Neeson a Netflix account. While on the press rounds for The A-Team, Neeson found time to discuss the sequel status of his previous blockbuster -- the surprise hit Taken: "It's just hard to get a plot that's going to be believable, you know? But I'm meeting with Luc Besson later this month so we're going to sit down and see if we can hash out a theme." Huh. Has he actually seen Taken? Considering it basically revolved around Neeson single-handedly killing everyone he ran into and that The A-Team features a scene where the protagonists fly a tank by firing its gun, it's safe to assume that his definition of "believable" has very wide parameters. If all else fails, he could always release the Kraken.
So basically his character was just like John Travolta's Charles Wax in From Paris With Love only with a kidnapped kid and hair.
I would think his comment referred more to the basic premise of the movie Taken than the rampaging action content. In the movie his daughter gets taken and he does all the less 'believable' stuff to get her back. Stuff we're willing to suspend our disbelief for because we're willing to believe he wants his daughter back.
What's supposed to happen in the sequel? His daughter gets taken again?
If that were to happen, we as movie fans would groan and roll our eyes; our minds would boggle at the inability of the daughter to keep herself safe and learn from past mistakes. Whereas, say, if instead Liam Neeson's character were to be hired to rescue someone else's daughter that had gotten kidnapped, we might be more forgiving. Why? Because, essentially, it's more believable.
actually, arguably the sequel could centre around the stepfather, or even his ex-wife's new family altogether. it was mentioned in the first film where the stepfather is quizzed about "doing a lot of business overseas" and may have made enemies over there along the way. so arguably the film could centre around this in some way, having them kidnapped and held ransom
I think we need to cut Mr. Neeson a lot of slack. He has made back to back to back to back films since his wife's tragic death last year. It is pretty obvious he is hurting in a major way. While he is off making these films, who is taking care of his two boys? I think if he sits still too long the reality of what has happened to him and his sons will be more than he can deal with. It happened to me and I was in denial for many years. I didn't make films, but I did travel all over the world alone (in my 20's at the time) to war zones, hot spots and any place exciting enough to help me forget. He has the LBJ film coming out as well as a couple of others. Taken could easily be remade with him opening up an organization with former CIA operatives, and mercenary soldiers to rescue women held by sex traders in various locations. They could have the South American angle, the Asian angle, the Middle East angle, the Eastern European angle, etc. His daughter (grown) could help them since she went through it. She could be an Angelina Jolie type. He looked so sad, depressed and in shock in Chloe that it was difficult to watch the film. Let us send some prayers their way instead of cutting him down.
I have actually been following your writings for 4 months at the moment and I really want to say that I seriously like your style.
