What's On: So You Think You Can Compete?
Watch. This. Show. So You Think You Can Dance may seem like a treat for rarefied reality-watchers who know their pirouettes from their pas de bourres, but this is so much better than other summer fare. Four episodes in, we're reaching the thrilling semifinal auditions where even the most primed prima has to sharpen her skills to make the Top 20. Come on, you've been suffering leotard withdrawal ever since Nastia Liukin left Beijing.
So You Think You Can Dance [Fox, 8 PM]
In the second leg of the Vegas auditions, we see if early favorites like Kent Boyd and the Marge Simpson-conjuring Nicole Knudson
will make the Top 10. We'll be seeing a lot of Mary Murphy this episode, so cherish this woozy trip on the hot tamale train while it lasts.
CMT Awards [CMT, 8 PM]
Kid Rock hosts the ninth annual ceremony and twangers Toby Keith, Keith Urban, Carrie Underwood and Miranda Lambert take the stage. You can also look forward to a performance from this year's breakout country act Lady Antebellum.
United States of Tara [Showtime, 8:30]
In the second season finale, crazyfaced Charmaine takes to the altar with Nick while Tara interrogates her parents about her childhood. It's important since these secrets may have -- you know -- caused her to endure a rare psychiatric disorder her entire life. Also: Marshall and Kate snoop around like teen gumshoes and find out revelatory information about the family. Those precocious gay kids and their snarly big sisters -- always knowing things!
The Sixth Sense [ENC, 9:35]
Before M. Night Shyamalan's process of writing entire movies around a twist became evident, we were served this supernatural 1999 thriller about a freakish little kid (Haley Joel Osment) who can see dead people. Please watch, because this kid's been through a lot: He met his father Forrest only recently and found out from Chuck Norris that he has AIDS. Give him some love.
