Hollywood Ink: Hilary Swank Draws Blood
· Everyone gets a vampire movie! The latest star to grow fangs: Hilary Swank. The two-time Oscar winner has signed on for the leading role in Fangland, an adaptation of John Marks' 2008 novel from director John Carpenter. Yes, that John Carpenter. Swank will play a TV news producer sent to Transylvania to investigate vampires and bad synthesizer music, so set aside an MTV Movie Award nomination right now. At this rate, expect to see Kate Winslet get cast in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn sometime next week. [Coming Soon]
Clive Owen and Robert De Niro go down under with Chuck star Yvonne Strahovski, Christopher Nolan talks Batman 3 and more Hollywood Ink after the jump
· Here at Movieline HQ, The Killer Elite is already the stuff of legend -- though what would you expect with Clive Owen, Jason Statham and Robert De Niro top-lining the indie action film about about a group of former British Special Forces officers being hunted by a group of former Navy SEALS. Well even more good news: This sausage fest has finally found a lady. Australian actress Yvonne Strahovski has been cast in a yet-to-be-determined role, though if it's anything like her work on Chuck, she'll be karate-chopping bad guys while wearing the least amount of clothing possible. When does this come out again? [First Showing]
· While Christopher Nolan was busy revealing nothing about Inception to the print edition of Empire Magazine, he let slip some not-so-surprising news about Batman 3: The Joker won't be appearing. "No, I just don't feel comfortable with that," said Nolan about finding someone to replace Heath Ledger. He also ruled out Mr. Freeze -- sorry, Arnold! -- but hasn't closed the door on Catwoman. Oh, and he's not even officially signed on to direct Batman 3, so none of this actually means anything. [MTV/SplashPage]
· And you know those incessant commercials that you ignore before seeing a movie on the big screen? Revenues on those ads were up only 2 percent in 2009, despite the fact that movie attendance grew 10 percent. Not to worry though: The Cinema Advertising Council says double-digit growth has returned through the first two quarters of 2010. Who's ready for more Fandango commercials? [THR]
