Your American Idols are Having Trouble Charting Top 10 Singles

American Idol's winners and runner-ups typically bring in big sales when their singles are first released, even if the numbers taper off afterward, but ninth season winner Lee DeWyze and runner-up Crystal Bowersox haven't even earned the initial boom of last year's top duo Kris Allen and Adam Lambert. In fact, they tanked. A glimpse at the actual figures when compared to 2009's numbers makes me feel a little pitchy, dawg.

Lee and Crystal's first week sales put them on the Billboard Digital Songs chart at number #12 and #32, respectively. Ouch. DeWyze's cover of U2's "Beautiful Day" tallied 95,000 downloads while Bowersox racked up 49,000 with her riff on Patty Griffin's "Up to the Mountain." DeWyze's "Hallelujuah" cover also came in at #20 while his "The Boxer" take landed at #61. His duet with Crystal, "Falling Slowly," arrived at #38.

Last year, Kris Allen's unbearable anthem "No Boundaries" sold 134,000 downloads and came it at #4 on the digital chart, while runner-up Adam Lambert's "Mad World" raked in 115,000 in first week sales, good for #7. Once again, Idol's relevance is dying like it's dying.

Too bad, I like Lee and Crystal's music. They are both very talented singers and musicians. I hope their songs get more play and move up. I love Kris Allen's songs too. I love the singer/musician/song writer types.
I will still support Lee and Crystal's music career and buy their songs because I love their sound.

Well 95K vs 134K is not that big of a deal considering how this season of Idol was so horrible AND the continual decline of record sales. That being said, Idol is dead and after producing the international superstar to be that they always wished for -Adam Lambert- it will never be the same again. The guy is charting in every country of the world and number one/platinum/gold in many. How dumb of them to orchestrate an entire season of mundane singers and so many guitar players. BACKFIRED (in trying to get the public to forget about Adam LOL)

It's an even bigger fall for S9 when you take into consideration that Mad World had already been out for 2 months. That 114k was the weeks numbers after 2 months of sales. It probably charted as number one on Billboard for quite some time but we'll never know since American Idol will not release sales numbers of Idols while the show is going on. If after 2 months the weekly download was 114k than what the heck was the number when he first sang it? Plus 134k for Kris on a song that was really bad. Both Kris and Adam admitted the song was bad. So if Kris could sell 134k downloads of a bad song and Lee doesn't sell even 100k of a classic that's bad

American Idol is a joke anymore and what puzzles me is just why would a record company want to sign a faux winner to any contract. It isnt like the person with the most votes is the most popular, given the show's voting system. Neither one of these singers appeals to me, but good luck to them. They will need it.
