Bret Michaels to Replace Simon Cowell?

bretmichaels100.jpgWere you curious why Bret Michaels made an appearance during the season finale of American Idol? If so, perhaps this will shed some light: TMZ reports that at a concert in Mississippi on Friday night, Michaels revealed to the crowd that he might replace Simon Cowell on American Idol next year. "I can't say this is true yet, cause I don't know. Next year they asked me to possibly be the judge on American Idol." A source close to the singer confirmed that he's in the running, presumably along with every other personality in the entertainment industry. [TMZ]

With him replacing Cowell you'll see the judging of singers cover such topics as vocal range, showmanship, song-choice, and putting out.

I hope he gets the job because I like him, but he is not a meanie like Simon.

  • I hope Bret is a judge on American Idol. He was a fabulous judge on Nashville Star. I also hope he will back Casey James and will let him go on tour with him. Every Rose was so beautiful when he sang with Casey. They were great singing together and the harmony was great. I think Casey is great and should get a contract. He has the looks and the voice to go far.
I hope Bret recovers and can go on with his concerts and tours. He is a great entertainer and is great to look at also.
Best wishes for your great come back. You have come through some troubled times and you deserve the best.
Praying for you and the best of everything to you.

Some folks are betting that Bret will "out" himself (perhaps after his first season on AI) followed by his good buddy Donald Trump. Go ahead, call me crazy!

IMO, Bret is not the right person to be a judge on IDOL for many reasons. It matters to me-but perhaps not others-that a judge of anything be a respected person within their industry. It'd make perfect sense to have Karl Lagerfeld as a fashion judge-his expertise-and Lance Armstrong on a show perhaps centering on the athelete's mind and related performance caveats.
I believe in the end IDOL will realize Bret's persona and music/life story are not the best 'judge profile' to be had in helping them sustain, much less further, its brand after Simon's departure. Futher, it is important IMHO that only a Simon like figure-and/or industry heavyweight-will help IDOL retain its prestige; of which a full dollop is required, if the IDOL brand wishes to be taken seriously.
But like this article says Bret...and damn near everybody else...
