CBS Trailers (and $#*! My Dad Says): Yay or Nay?

The hands of CBS honcho Les Moonves were bloody this week after slaying seven series -- a record for this season's upfronts so far. It was a bold (even arrogant) move that suggested that the network is so confident in its new series that it doesn't need proven time slot champs and Emmy-winners like Ghost Whisperer and New Adventures of Old Christine anymore -- in fact, they'll even hand them over to ABC. So what are these golden projects on which CBS is betting the farm? Click through to see their trailers for yourself.

Hawaii Five-O

Surfers! Cops! Beach babes! Explosions! This high-profile remake could be the series that catapults CBS golden boy Alex O'Loughlin into U.S. stardom with its recognizable theme song, beautiful Hawaiian island-scape, high production value and the kind of sparring buddy cop task force chemistry that already makes NCIS work for the network.

Verdict: Surf's up. Yay!

That Hawaii 5-0 clip reached the point where I was surprised when segments didn't end with a character getting punched in the face.

We'll see. Les Moonves better hope this thing doesn't start sinking. That said, series that get shopped to another network rarely survive. Five-0 and "...my dad says" probably have the best shot.

Ugh. I wish Five-O was better, but like most reboots they try too hard to make it hip. The original was about straight arrow guys protecting a crime-ridden paradise, but of course these days it's the cops who have to be too cool for school and look like they just walked off a GQ shoot. Plus, I bet the new theme will suck ("yeah, let's make it a cool rockin' version!" Uhh, how about not. Remember how U2 ruined the Mission Impossible theme?)

  • The Winchester says:

Yeah, but remember how Limp Bizkit came a few years later and made everything right again?
