Hollywood Ink: Ellen Page Says 'Yes' to Lesbian Tearjerker
· Ellen Page is attached to star in Freeheld, the feature adaptation of Cynthia Wade's Oscar-winning short documentary from 2007. The young star -- who was nominated for Best Actress the same year for Juno -- would play New Jersey auto mechanic Stacie Andree, who joins her dying partner Laurel Hester to battle for rights to Hester's police pension. Channing Tatum detoxes, Mark Hamill geeks out and more Hollywood Ink after the jump.
· Channing Tatum will reportedly star as a recovering junkie in What's Left of Us, based on the novel of the same name about a heroin addict's "seven excruciating days in detox." Lazy, lame jokes about this abound around the Web this morning, so I'll call my shot: Tatum can act, and about 15 shed pounds later, I guarantee you he will be good. [Deadline]
· Coincidentally, the same shingle underwriting Tatum's junkie movie have Mark Hamill's second directorial effort -- an adaptation of his own graphic novel The Black Pearl -- fully funded (for $7 million) and ready to go for fall. The Star Wars alum told reporters that his R-rated, "dark, edgy thriller" would have been a megabudget Hollywood comic-book movie, but that's just not what he wanted. Why do I believe him? I'm so optimistic today! It won't last. [Variety]
· Cameron Crowe's deep wounds following his Elizabethtown debacle in 2005 appear to have healed. The writer-director will next take on We Bought a Zoo, an adaptation of Benjamin Mee's memoir about that time his family spent its life savings on a zoo and its 200 animals marked for destruction. Fox already has it slated for Dec. 23, 2011; the casting hunt is underway. [THR]
· Frances McDormand will join Sean Penn in This Must Be the Place, about an aging rock star who goes looking for the Nazi who ordered his father's execution. McDormand's role is top secret; guess away if you have anything. [Variety
