With that holiday quickly approaching, Movieline has compiled five matriarchs on television today that will make your mother's judgmental sniping almost palpable. So order an edible arrangement for the woman who birthed you and thank JC you didn't have to grow up with one of these ladies.
5. Celia Rhodes, Gossip Girl
Portrayed By: Caroline Lagerfelt
Both Lily's mother and Serena's grandmother, Celia is manipulative, cold and the person responsible for breaking Rufus and Lily up decades ago by making her daughter choose between her beau and her inheritance. She later lied to Lily and Serena about having a terminal illness to garner sympathy and also tried to break up Serena and Dan.
4. Colleen Donaghy, 30 Rock
Portrayed By: Elaine Stritch
Highly critical, affection-averse, overbearing.
Born into an Irish Catholic family that her son Jack calls "a bunch of mud farmers and sheep rapists," Colleen Donaghy harassed her son from a very early age -- blaming him for John F. Kennedy's death, trying to send him to Vietnam when he was 12 to "make a man out of him," and embarrassing him by forcing him to play the flute in front of his hockey team.
3. Celia Hodes, Weeds
Portrayed By: Elizabeth Perkins
Even though Celia got into the drug trade later than Nancy Botwin, she is the far worse parent. She sent her eldest daughter (who later kidnapped her) to boarding school in Mexico, taunted her youngest daughter about her weight (calling her "Isabelly") and once replaced her daughter's chocolate stash with laxatives.

America's most famous reality mom has been exploiting her eight children since their birth, allegedly even faking Christmases to get an honest reaction from her offspring before revealing to them that it is not actually the holiday. Additionally, Kate has whored out her children's memories in a series of books and has left her family for weeks at a time to compete in Dancing with the Stars and complete book tours.

You cannot tell me that Kate isn't very well off from the series, her books and the appearances she has made so far. She does not need to spend so much time away from these kids to support them. And even if she did, then she should cut back on luxuries to save money and not the time she spends with her kids.
The day after she got home from dancing with the stars she was tanning and a pedicure. Really? If she were a great mother, her first day home would of been devoted to those kids. I know we all need time for ourselves but she had been away for so long, that was just plain selfish. Those children need normalcy in their life and their mom being constantly gone and being left with nannies isn't going to do that. This woman has shown her true side on the series..she's manipulating and a user...and you all just fall down to your knees believing every word she says.

Why are people saying that Kate is a bad mother? Have they watched the show? She seems to be a terrific mother. She is organized and loving. She is strict and sweet. I have watched the show and I think that is a great mother and a great role-model for mothers. Her kids are well adjusted. How can people say thay sheis a bad mother. I hope that when I am mother, I will be as good of a mother.

I think Kate gets critized more than the stars/entertainers/actors that were mententioned is because she seems to always be complaining, and has done a complete 360 since we were first introduced to her. At the beginning- she wanted financial security and the kids to have normalcy- what every parent wants. Concsidering the income generated from Jon & Kate Plus 8- should have been the end of it- but they got sucked into another life and others were making more $ off her children, her marriage, and her personality disorder. If what sshe said in the beginning was true- a move to a larger home would have been more appropriate, her obtaining a nursing job, quitting the show except for an annual update, and striving for normacy. But no! She wants a mansion, nannies, travel, bodyguards, fame. J&K both knew that the odds were set against them from beginning, but they allowed all the distrations into their lives! They got what they wanted. She should hire John as a nanny when she travels on her custody time. No way does it cost $5000. a month per child especially when the receive clothing for free, furniture for free, and who knows what else. Is she charging them room and board?
Why don't we ask Kate just how much of the money her and Jon have saved up for the kids. Since they live in Pa. they do not have to save a dime for them. They did spend plenty on the two of them . I think they should both be black balled

please all of you kate lovers, watch the videos of jon and kate plus 8 and open your eyes . kate sits around in a chair and oreds jon around to do all the work and kids are fighting and she doesnt move what so ever. jon put them to bed jon brush their teeth jon gave them their baths ,yea i know she had them all day by her self bull she put those kids down for naps or per se in there rooms and closed the door , oh thats right where was jon ? duh!working before kate figured out he should quit his job and stay home and take care of those kids. she went off to take care of her toes. bleach her , spa time with her used to be friend beth. i never forgot the show where collin was so sick he was carrying a fever and puking up , where did kate put him? in the room with the washer and dryer on a cold hard floor and a pan to puke in , when jon came home from work he went in there and picked that sick child up and took him to a warm bedroom ,yea she is some great mother . no wonder jon left.
Sadly the TV moms should not be counted with Kate. She is an awful mother without benefit of a writing team. Her children do not have a loving mom to go home to at the end of the day. That is really sad. I will be glad when she and her 15 minutes finally fade away.
Kate is the worst mom, the others are actresses. Kate is manipulitive, organized, and bossy. Her kids are not well behaved in the sense we think, They are scared to death of Kate. You can tell the way they look at her. She doesn't need to go running all over the world to make a living and leaving the kids at home. She should be with them. They probably don't even know who their mother is. Naturally she is always talking about her kids - good publicity.

When you become a "mommy" do you plan on using your kids to make a paycheck? Do you plan on LYING to them, after all that's what it was, by telling them that "IT'S CHRISTMAS" when in reality as *WE* know it, it WASN'T? Do you plan on writing a book not just about yourself but about your childrens PERSONAL feelings, etc? Do you plan on belittling your child's father right in front of them on a daily basis and let's not forget, giving him a slap on the face from time to time, AGAIN, right in front of them? Ok, this list could go on!! If you've answered yes to any of those questions, I would beg you NOT to become a parent for the sake of that child!!!! Seriously. Those kids did NOT ask to be born to a mom like that, to parents like them!! Yes I include Jon because he hasn't been a saint in all of this either. They DIDN'T ask for their personal lives to be put on display did they??
A good mother puts her kids FIRST and as the mother, your wants and needs come last. You, as the mother, make sacrafices for your children, for their happiness, NOT the other way around!!! And you most certainly DON'T USE THEM!!
FYI, yes I watched that show. Not every episode, thank goodness for that. I could barely stomach the episodes I did see and from what I saw, that entire show was wrapped around Kate and what KATE WANTED!!! This is how I saw Kate's priorities:
1. KATE 2. TLC 3. her family .... I'm more willing to take parenting advice from someone who doesn't see $$$ as a motivator but hey, that's just ME!! Peace

My grandmother raised sixteen children when my grandfather passed. She did not exploit them or parade them around like a circus, faked holidays for the camera, etc to support them. She lived within her means and budget. That's what you do.
Maybe Kate should downsize so she can spend more time with her kids, but maybe her kids dont want their Mom around after seeing how she treats their Dad.
I come from a family of NINE!!!! My parents didn't run out and get a reality show, in fact, there was no such thing but that's not why they didn't do it. My mom would have NEVER used her kids in that way... NEVER!! You'd have to know my mom to understand. She ALWAYS put us first as a mother should. She taught me that as well as so much more!!
You asked "how do you raise a family of 10"?? Real easy. GO TO WORK!!! That's what my dad did. As we got older, that's what they both did. Hell, if we were able to make it on what my dad was bringing in, there is NO WAY you can get me to believe that they can't!!
We lived in a 3 bd, ONE BA house and the rooms were SMALL!! Me and my 3 sisters shared a room and we slept 2 to a bed. My 3 brother shared a very small bedroom with 2 on one bunk and 1 on the other!!! We didn't get everything our lil hearts desired because there wasn't enough money BUT... every Christmas, our parents had 3 gifts under that tree for us and when it came to our birthdays, we didn't get gifts BUT, we ALWAYS had a homemade cake, jello and ice cream!! :') Now you're probably feeling bad for me, for us but don't because those Christmas gifts and what my mom did for our B-days meant EVERYTHING to us and to this day... it still DOES!! We were taught early on that if you wanted something, you had to WORK & SAVE for it, which we did. In other words, we were taught VALUES. Sometimes my mom feels bad for not being able to give more to us even though deep down inside she knows she did the best she could and when I hear her start to utter those words, I stop her because to me, she gave me so much more than "things"!! We got so much love, we were taught very valuable lessons and as a family, we spent so much time together!! No amount of money can give you that.. EVER!!!
What I don't understand is... why do you Kate supporter seem to think that they're the ONLY family to have had a large family in the history of life??? There are families out there that are larger than mine, who didn't have much but yet, still made it through. Point is.. it can be done WITHOUT using your kids!! I'm living PROOF of that FACT!! 😀
Julie Miller, the author of this article, is in a way "whoring" Kate Gosselin. Why do I say this? Because Miller is exploiting Kate's popularity, especially the phenomenon of Kate-hate.By using emotionally charged key words she is throwing a match in the fire to instigate controversy and draw attention to her article. It's a cheap shot for an easy sell! And to do it on 'Mother's Day' does not speak well for Julie Miller as a woman and a mother.

People need to get off Kate's butt....She is a good mother and certainly a better parent then that walking STD of a father they have. People are just ticked that she and the kids make money off the TV shows and books...don't watch or don't read the books then but leave her alone to make a living for herself and her kids....we all know Jon isn't going to contribute financially.
