Movieline Casts David Chase's New Movie

Paramount Pictures has announced that on May 8th in Manhattan, they'll be holding an open casting call for the three leads in David Chase's new film, "a musical-driven coming of age story set in suburbia." So, basically, That Thing You Do! Got it. While it's nice that the studio has given a modicum of hope to struggling actors everywhere, if you think Chase's first post-Sopranos project is going to be some Todd Phillips-like free-for-all with a bunch of no-name first-timers, you're crazy. Cue up some Journey, check out the casting notices, and take a look at our suggestions on who should star:

· DOUGLAS: A high school student of Italian descent. Douglas is not very athletic, very much in the background at school. He is heavily influenced by the blues and by bands like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles and The Yardbirds. He becomes the drummer/back up vocalist of his friends' band.

(Of course he's Italian.) While there's a chance Chase could mean "McLovin'" when he says "not very athletic," for arguments sake I'll just assume he means this role isn't made for "jocks." As such, it's hard for me to envision anyone but Verge alum Ezra Miller as Douglas.

· WELLS: An artistic, upper class guitarist for the band. Wells is probably the most intelligent of the group.

When you start off your blockbuster career playing Chekov in Star Trek and Kyle Reese in Terminator Salvation (plus, who can forget Charlie Bartlett?), you're kind of ahead of the game when it comes to exuding on-screen intelligence. Anton Yelchin, come on down!

· RONNY: Quite different from Douglas, Ronny is athletic, unpredictable and the "King Rocker" in his small town. He is the lead singer of their band.

If Chase hadn't limited his options by making sure all the leads were 25 and under, he could be looking at actors like Taylor Kitsch for this role. He'd be perfect, but alas, at 29, he's way too old. So screw it: How about Edward himself, Robert Pattinson? If he can't play Kurt Cobain, there's always this...
