Toy Story 3 Cliffhanger Screenings Meet Resistance on Twitter
The reports of Disney screening the first 65 minutes of Toy Story 3 at college campuses around the country has been circulating since March, so what better time than now for the New York Times to realize they exist. In an article yesterday, the Paper of Record reports on the screenings from the front line -- ie; college campuses where students are screaming "No!" when the projector cuts out right before the film's climax.
Disney had hoped these screenings would help create a grassroots "gotta see" movement among "Andyites" -- college kids who were young children when the original Toy Story came out -- as if they wouldn't rush out to see the movie when it opens in July anyway. (The Times stipulates that the 18-to-24-year-old demographic doesn't go see animated films, though that claim seems specious at best.) But while many students have been pleased with the footage, there are a few who haven't drank the Kool-Aid. Like 23-year-old Ethan Young, who tweeted: "As much as I would love to see Toy Story 3 tonight, I would NOT like to see a 'special cliffhanger edition.' Fail."
Fail indeed. And for those wondering: That's the second time the Times has ever used "fail" in that context; the first was in reference to Sarah Palin's Fox News debut.

I call lie on the 18 to 24 years old don't see animation.
I am 21 and I have never missed a Pixar film.
I'm 19 and I too have never missed a Pixar movie, but these two instances don't disprove the statement. Apart from my buddies on the animation course, I don't know many who would see what they'd call a cartoon.
First, I used to be 18-24, but technically I'm almost 30 now ... *gasp*
But really, I still think I'm more mentally and emotionally a college-age kid. I've seen EVERY Pixar film, including the shorts, and I think they're all pretty spectacular. I also watch a lot of the Dreamworks Animation flicks as well, so I'm not just a Pixar snob.
But if I were given the chance to go see 65 minutes of TS3, would I? No ...
Because I'd end up pissed not being able to finish the film for another month. Who wants that kind of experience!?
It has nothing to do with the fact that it's an animated movie ... I'm super-hyped to see "Iron Man 2" and "The Last Airbender", but if you gave me the same offer for those films, I'd still turn you down -- because I don't want to have to sit through half of it and then be pissed because I can't see the rest for any amount of time. If it was a short intermission, I might deal with that, otherwise ... it's just torture.
If you're going to show a sneak peak ... show the whole freakin' film. Don't pussy-foot around and only show half the film, that's just retarded and mean.
Lindsay Lohan really is a fantastic representation of everything wrong in America today. I seriously cannot believe why the hell Lindsay would get that much news attention!
