Titans Director Not Too Dazzled with Fake 3-D Either

So despite your instincts counseling you over the weekend to take the plunge and enjoy Why Did I Get Married Too, you splurged instead on Clash of the Titans in glorious 3-D. Or maybe not "glorious," but maybe a modifier more akin to "serviceable." Or "passable." Or any other synonym that you want to conjure for "half-assed but full-priced." And if one new interview is any indication, director Louis Leterrier will even help you out.

Leterrier shared a bracingly candid moment with a THR interviewer at last week's Titans premiere, not only reversing himself on why the producers would be "idiots" to remake Titans in the first place, but also thinly veiling his distaste for the 3-D conversion that would help boost his film to an even higher No. 1 gross than anticipated:

Q. How do you feel about the 3-D conversion? There's been a lot of talk that's it's not up to snuff.

A. Well, what did you think? Be honest.

Q. Well, to me, it was like watching a View-Master.

A. (laughs) It's funny, that is one of the things I was saying to them. Don't make it so much like a View-Master -- so ... so puffied up. Listen, it was not my intention to do it in 3-D; it was not my decision to convert it in 3-D. Now, people love 3-D. People will go see it in 3-D, and it will play in 3-D; it's like a ride. If you love 3-D and the studio is giving you the opportunity to see it in 3-D, go see it in 3-D. If you don't like 3-D, don't go see it in 3-D.

Conversions, they all look like this. Alice in Wonderland looks like this. Remember the technology was not ready, so it's Warner Bros. saying we are giving you the best of what we can do.

And... it looks like the product of a 50-year-old plastic toy. On the bright side, this means the technology is ready for DreamWorks' planned View-Master movie, so expect news of that fast-tracking to hit the wires any minute now. Silver linings, people.
