Kelly Killoren Bensimon on Real Housewives of NYC and Her 'Joan Collins Moment' with Bethenny

Bethenny was a more established cast member at the time of the fight. Do you think she consciously played that to her advantage, knowing you'd have less time on screen to defend yourself?

Absolutely. I've got to be honest with you, the girl is devious. I'm a mom, I'm a writer, I ride horses, I hang out with my dogs and my kids, and I'm lucky to be exposed to amazing writers and journalists and have a really great time in the fashion industry. I've just been so fortunate. But I'm not a devious person; I'm a worker bee. If you ask me to write a book, I write a book. I just write the book and promote it as best as I can. I smile and enjoy the process. She's devious and she's got a plan. She knew that by calling me Madonna and attacking me in front of other people, knowing that -- and I told the editors I had five minutes, I'm supposed to be at Zac Posen. And they said, "Please come, come come, come for two seconds, they'll understand."

They set me up. They're like, "She can only come for five minutes, she's a diva." I'm not a diva -- I'm just late. The perception on television is that I don't have any time and I'm a diva. But the realty is I'm a working girl. I'm fine with that. It created great television, it was amazing for Bravo, we got a great amount of press for the second season with all the antics I created and was exposed to. If that's what makes great TV, I'm happy to be part of the process.

I tend to see photos at events of Bravo stars communing quite a bit. Have you befriended other stars at the network?

I've met this woman on Shear Genius, Caroline from New Jersey, other housewives, and I know a lot of people on TV -- I know Tyra, I know Kimora, these various people. I mean, does it mean that I'm on a reality show that I hang out with other reality shows? No. Does this mean I had the friends before that I have now? Yes. Am I meeting new friends? Yes. I don't actively pursue people on TV, or actors, or movie stars. Whoever likes me, I like them. There's not like a reality TV circuit.

We do a feature on Movieline called "My Favorite Scene," where we force people to pick a favorite film scene. Do you have one? I'm curious.

I'd have to pick something from Rear Window. I really like Hitchcock.

That's my favorite movie. I'm a Grace junkie.

I'm flattered that you're taking the time to get to know me, because a lot of people have a misconception of me. They think I'm something I'm completely not. That's one of the drawbacks to being on Real Housewives, is that it's based on hearsay. It's someone else's perception of you; they don't really know you. I'm so flattered by every single writer who takes the time, because it's an opportunity to show who I am.

Speaking of showing who you are, you've just said that Bethenny is more devious than she appears on screen. Was anyone else conveyed inaccurately?

They definitely characterize people. They wanted me to be this uptight socialite who's having it all and living the high life and not caring about anyone. Anyone that knows me knows that I'm the complete opposite of that. I'm always, like, I'll help you in any way. If you need a job, I'll help you. Most of the time I'm with my kids, or I'm trying to help someone, or I'm overscheduled because I'm trying to do too much. I don't think I was necessarily clearly portrayed. At the same time it was a great portrayal -- it made me into an evocative character. What was I going to do, be like, "Yeah, Kelly's big plan tonight is to ride horses." That's not exciting.

Oh! What kind of obnoxious bullshit blathering was this? And how did she make me laugh at the phrase "my driver was dying of cancer"?

I saw Kelly on Monday at a tennis match at Madison Square Garden. Her face is so overly fake tanned that it is almost purple. She resembles an older, thinner Violet Beauregarde.

    She is a name dropper!
    Very full of herself!
    Team Bethanny all the way

  • Gina says:

Team Kelly - I don't know how anyone can even stand to look at Bethenny anymore. She is beyond vile. The worst people can say about Kelly is that she's "on another planet". She's just fun-loving and has a good heart. I have to wonder if Bethenny has any heart at all. In the first episode of Season 3, her interactions with her new boyfriend were not the least bit tender or loving. Is she female even? LOL. Anyway, good for Kelly for striking back - Bethenny lashed out at her enough.

I can't stand Kelly. She thinks shes all that but she beats people up, when she was on show the first time she attacked Bethenny and when Bethenny would say something Kelly said "Stop just stop your wasteing my time. What time she never does anything important. All jealous because Bethenny did her business with no help from a man. Alexis is sweet and Jill and Countless and Kelly talk about her and Simon and then when face to face they act so goody goody. Their all fake .

i kinda agree with you. i'm not team kelly, but bethenny is very unfeminine and caustic and too confrontational. kelly is not the brightest bulb, and she is definitely a name dropper and social climber and all that, but, at the end of the day, she is just a girl trying to get by the only way she knows how (with her looks, not her brain). bethenny picking fights with her is like picking a fight with a child. of course you can out talk them and beat them, but why? i'm definitely sick of bethenny, for sure, and i was a big fan of hers last year. kelly, yah, not team kelly and would never be friends with someone like that, but whatever... she's just a mom trying to get by, and you don't really see her trying to stab people. she is a little bit here to bethenny, but she's too self-involved to waste her time plotting against others. she's just trying to promote herself.

Kelly is fantastic and that is what Bethenny hates about her. You can see how at ease she is with herself and what an absolutely incredible life she leads. She even speaks well of her ex husband - she actually says that she was married to an incredible man and the next guy needs to be just as incredible - she's even at peace with her ex! She's 41 and can still rock the hot pants. Her apt is great and REAL. Bright pink couches and a life size horse statue - you look at it and see her, not some designer. I love how she says "don't buy things, buy objects" - she appreciates art and it comes through in the way she lives. It's just a shame that others are not as happy with themselves and try to beat her down to make themselves feel better.

For dresses that do not have zippers in the back, use the template cup from the cupboard, or any other shape that would make a good template. Draw around it and cut a shape from the back of the dress. Nisa around the figure, and you'll have a nice summer dress like no other... Just my 2 cents : )
