Will Jeff Bridges Cigar Purchase Earn Scrutiny From On-Edge Academy?
The ongoing scandal surrounding a Hurt Locker producer and his ill-advised Oscar rallying cry has all of Hollywood on edge today. Fear, paranoia and loathing have gripped fellow nominees and Academy leadership in particular, with emergency meetings and various disciplinary measures dominating a period that should be marked by joy, celebration and unintelligible Adam Shankman tweets about the progress of his So You Think You Can Dance alums on the biggest stage of their lives. And now... this: Best Actor front-runner Jeff Bridges is said to have ordered two cases of high-end cigars in advance of the March 7 ceremony. Awfully confident there, aren't we? Does he know something the rest of us don't?
OK, probably not. Everyone loves Bridges (especially Movieline), and if anyone runs a tighter-than-tight Oscar ship, it's Crazy Heart distributor Fox Searchlight. Nevertheless, to their likely consternation, another shameless, poorly timed publicity e-mail from the awards-season front lines has slid over the transom at ML HQ, teasing a luxury cigar brand as part "how [Bridges] plans to celebrate":

If Harvey Weinstein had a horse in the Best Actor race, it would be so on right now.

Maybe he got them to help pave the way for receiving the little statuette. What else is one to do at all those Academy Award press luncheons and meet-and-greets, dog-and-pony shows, etc?
As far as I am concerned, though, Jeff Bridges can do no wrong.
Hey, maybe he simply impregnated his "Tron Legacy" co-star Serinda Swan and is passing them out for the birth. No scandal there.
omg. i can't believe this post. first of all that photo was from about 2 years ago at a charity event in santa barbara for families that didn't have enough money to care for their terminally ill children. it had a full on cubana theme (hence we all were in white and the men were passed out those hats and cigars)
jeff smokes cigars now and then and surely shares them with his friends.
what is all this 'let's see what we can dish' on this person or that. it feels ridiculous to even be writing this,
but come on. this is a humble good guy. he's definitely not smug about winning this oscar.
he's already off to sante fe shooting 'true grit'. back for oscar time,...but no one is ever sure, are they.
Colin Firth in A Single Man? Very much a TWC property?
OK, I should have been clearer: Colin Firth will not win. He never had a chance to win after Bridges joined up. Harvey gave up on him months ago to focus on Basterds. He is as much a "horse" in the "race" as that French skier who was DQ'd after tumbling 10 feet from the starting gate in women's downhill.
Can't believe it, Lady Gaga was awarded 8 VMA awards on Sunday. I am really excited for her wins and I enjoyed the Born This Way song Lady GaGa sung too.
