Scott Porter

Age: 30

Best Known For: Friday Night Lights

Pros: This Verge alum is square-jawed and critic-approved, and can play younger than his thirty years. Already loves comic books

Cons: Far too few opportunities for Captain America to beatbox.

Physique: Already in possession of a generically worked-out, smooth actor chest.

Mike Vogel

Age: 30

Best Known For: Getting killed in Cloverfield and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Pros: Hollywood keeps trying to make this guy happen.

Cons: In both Cloverfield and the upcoming She's Out of My League, Vogel is surrounded with barely-known actors and still makes almost no impression.

Physique: Has the Men's Health look

Patrick Flueger

Age: 26

Best Known For: USA sci-fi series The 4400

Pros: Impressed in a small role as Tobey Maguire's tortured fellow soldier in Brothers

Cons: Initially wasn't even part of Fleming's report -- maybe he's hanging on by a thread?

Physique: Skinny in Brothers, but he may have recovered since then.

Garrett Hedlund

Age: 25

Best Known For: Until now, Four Brothers, though he's the lead in the upcoming, megabudgeted Tron Legacy

    What... No Jensen Ackles??

  • Marie says:

Out of those 7, I like Garrett the best. The others either seem too geeky or too girly. It's Captain America for goodness sake! I feel like this movie may be a flop though, so Garrett should skip it and focus on Tron 🙂

  • Jordan says:

Garrett Hedlund, Michael Cassidy or Mike Vogel.
They all have the talent, just not that break out role.

  • Matthew DH says:

Just have Taylor Lautner do 1/4 of the film, and let the rest of these hotties finish it a la The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. If Mr. Lautner does happen to die in the process, well, we'll all cope with Eclipse breaking Avatar's records.

  • Brando says:

These are all wrong. It needs to be Ryan "Captain Awesome" McPartlin from Chuck. Look at how whitebread this guy is, which is exactly what you need for Cap.

i love the idea of ryan mcpartlin! he's great and totally has the look, but i think a lot depends on how they're going to play captain america. is he going to be quick witted? you kind of already have that with tony stark/iron man. as much as i love ryan, he's kind of a one note actor. i'm not really impressed with any of these guys, they're either really bland or a little to sarcastic, at least in the roles i've seen. i love the idea of chris hemsworth in thor, so i have faith the producers can find the right actor, i'm just not sure any of these guys will do.

I grew up with captain America, has the person casting this show even seen a Captain America Comic Book? This is not Captain America actors, these are Super Twins!

  • Mikey says:

Mayonnaise, Miracle-Whip, salad dressing--it's so hard to decide.

  • Victor Ward says:

I am always game for opportunities to list hot guys!
    Sean Faris
    Hunter Parrish
    Matt Lanter
    Paul Wesley
    Brando Eaton
    even.. NPH?

  • Flakk says:

Of the presented actors, I like John Krasinski for the role the most. His eyes and chin would work well with the mask. Brando's suggestion of Ryan McPartlin is perhaps a step in the right direction, though I think that boiling down Steve Rogers to "whitebread" is a mistake. Consider the man: born handicapped, willing to undergo an experimental treatment that had killed everyone else, experienced the horrors of WW2, when revived after thirty years of being frozen learned that many whom he had loved were dead. I think the actor chosen would need to be older (35-40), and able to portray a commanding lead as someone committed do always doing what's right, with just a hint of sadness. I like Josh Duhamel, Karl Urban, or Jon Hamm for the role.

  • Christian says:

OMG.. this is a classic comic book showing a man with a "hulk" physique. Why do we have to have these skinny boys in contention for the role? There are several amazing MEN with studly physiques who would be amazing in a role like this. Why pad up these children? Okay, okay... of all these guys the clear winner is John Krasinski. He is the only one that has some testosterone in the bunch and he would be able to act. My only issue is that he hit the gym for a few months, but he certainly has the looks and the 5-oclock shadow to pull it off. The rest are whipped cream kids.

I watched something about that on television last week. Thanks for covering it in greater depth
