Oscar Youth Movement Continues With Presenters Taylor Lautner, Kristen Stewart, Miley Cyrus

The one thing that this year's Oscar producers intend to carry over from 2009's show is, ironically, also the one thing that has exasperated purists sobbing into their coffee this morning: A calculated appeal to tweens. The Academy disclosed Monday that Twicons Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will debut as Oscar presenters alongside returning stars Miley Cyrus and Zac Efron. But, but... whither Robert Pattinson, last year's Twilight representative of choice?

No, seriously, where is he? His Remember Me opens the Friday after the Oscarcast, which seems a great promotional opportunity -- except, I guess, for the fact that distributor Summit Entertainment is the putative Best Everything front-runner for The Hurt Locker, and the Academy has a whole subsection of absurd strictures about who can promote what nominees to whom and when it can be done and... yeah. Or it could just be that Adam Shankman is Team Jacob. Anyway, quit bitching and salute your presenters! Squeeeee! etc.

Finally, award presenters as dull and lifeless as the ceremony itself.

There was a time, not so very long ago, when you took your mother to the Oscars and left your twink at home.

Taylor, Kristen, Miley and Zac are also ACTORS who MAKE movies why shouldn't they be at the Oscars? They are American actors going to an American acting event. Taylor Lautner was in 2/3 of New Moon, why shouldn't he attend to represent his movie? Rob Pattinson is in London currently filming a movie, you are free to fly over there any day. He is a British actor who went to the BAFTA's, the British Oscars. What do you want from him? The press gets off on bashing teens like Taylor, Kristen and Miley for no reason at all. These kids work hard and don't get into trouble, what do you want from them? If you don't like them then don't watch the Oscars, plenty of us will and your viewership will NOT be missed.
