Jennifer Lopez to Host SNL with Little to Promote Except An Age-Old Fight with Mango

Fans of Jennifer Lopez's ass-debilitating single "Louboutins" will not get to buy a full album in the near future, as the onetime Mrs. Cris Judd was dropped from her label. This news wouldn't normally belong in Movieline's wheelhouse, except that Lopez is set to host SNL in four days, and we're protective over The 8H That Lorne Built. With her new movie The Back-Up Plan not out until April, it seems that Lopez has no choice but to reference her last SNL hosting gig in 2001. We all know what that means: the belly-shirted Chris Kattan comeback.

In fact, SNL may still mark a return to divahood for Lopez, who mocked herself to surprising effect during her last two appearances in 2000 and 2001. On both occasions, she required the gold-lamé glamor of Kattan's stripper character Mango to help do the job. Since her album (called Love?, help us all) has been shelved, the next best idea is to rehash a better time in SNL history, when more than one cast member could carry a sketch. Don the gloves and ride the 6 to Rockefeller, Kattan! (I don't actually know where the 6 goes, other than in Jennifer Lopez album titles from 1999).

This might be documentary footage of the fight at Sony, in retrospect. Speaking of which: Maybe Mango could reemerge as J-Lo's bossy Sony exec? I'd approve, if Lorne Michaels sucked it up and realized that love for old cast members didn't cost a thing.

  • Good deal. I like music a lot. It actually temped me when people say something like since she’s Forty she shouldn't make music anymore. Thats silly. Carry it J.Lo!
