Are you as tired of this perfectly timed Kevin Smith/Southwest kerfuffle as we are? Cleanse your palate instead by reading Esquire's exquisite new profile of Roger Ebert, where the legendary, ailing film critic (whose jaw was removed from cancer-caused complications) lets writer Chris Jones in on all matters medical and emotional: "There is no need to pity me, he writes on a scrap of paper one afternoon after someone parting looks at him a little sadly. Look how happy I am." [Esquire]

It's a great article. I'm not ashamed to say that reading it made this born-and-bred Chicagoan a little teary. I hope the mob over at Big Hollywood that's been after Ebert since he called the Tea Party folks "Teabaggers" read the Esquire piece and feel a little ashamed of their pettiness and ignorance. But that's probably asking too much.
Also, Ebert's journal on the Sun-Times website is one of a handful of consistently excellent things on the Internet. If you're not reading it, please start.
