Roger Corman to Raise Sharktopus From the Depths for SyFy

Over the weekend, Syfy Channel's director of original movies, Karen O'Hara, tweeted confirmation that the network had greenlit the long-gestating Untitled Shark-Octopus Hybrid Leviathan Project, now being referred to as the much catchier Sharktopus, with living legend Roger Corman attached to direct. Her tweet:

Just got off the phone with the legendary Roger Corman who's doing a new movie for us this year. Yes, it's the long-rumored SHARKTOPUS! . . . Spent half an hour discussing what a sharktopus should look like, how many mouths it should have and how it should kill.

Possible way that conversation might have unfolded:

"So maybe it has a octopus head and mouth, and a long, sleek back with prominent dorsal fin?"

"That's considerably less threatening than what I was picturing."

"You're right. So we keep the eight tentacles, and shark face. Teeth everywhere."

"Let's put a second set of jaws in back, so it can snack on tourists from both holes at once!"

"And poop them through its spout!"

"Do sharks have spouts?"

"They do now!"

"Can we stick the fin in there somewhere?"

"I don't see why not."

"And let's put suction cups all over it!"

"I love it!"

Anyway -- Sharktopus, people! It's as if the six-legged Avatar equines never even happened. Pictured, illustrator Matt Leach nightmarish vision.

I just hope that it's not as bad as his version of "The Fantastic Four" or his inspired cut of the first US release of "The Wickerman." I will admit that "The Pit and the Pendulum" was pretty good.

The hellspawn of "Mega-Shark Vs. Giant Octopus". Wonder if Corman will let Deborah Gibson read for the part.
