Palin Family Responds to 'Pathetic, Hurtful' Family Guy Episode
Forget boxes of chocolate and novelty handcuffs. On Valentine's Day, Family Guy sent fellow Fox employee Sarah Palin a heart-shaped episode entitled "Extra Large Medium." Only instead of a complimentary or sweet shout-out to the governor, the episode included a storyline in which Chris dates a girl with Down syndrome. And not just any girl with Down syndrome -- a girl who admits that "my mom's the former governor of Alaska." That particular line as well as Stewie's song "Down Syndrome Girl" ("And though her pretty face may seem a special person's wettest dream") stung Alaska's former first family enough to warrant two nasty Facebook tongue lashings at Seth MacFarlane & Co.
The episode, which was written by series showrunner Steve Callaghan, made a pointed reference to Palin's son Trig, who was born with the chromosomal disorder in 2008. Palin had been in the news lately for slamming White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel for his use of the word "retard."
Early this morning, in a post titled "Fox Hollywood - What a Disappointment," Palin responded to the episode:
"People are asking me to comment on yesterday's Fox show that felt like another kick in the gut. Bristol was one who asked what I thought of the show that mocked her baby brother, Trig (and/or others with special needs), in an episode yesterday. Instead of answering, I asked her what she thought. Here is her conscientious reply, which is a much more restrained and gracious statement than I want to make about an issue that begs the question, "when is enough, enough?":
"When you're the son or daughter of a public figure, you have to develop thick skin. My siblings and I all have that, but insults directed at our youngest brother hurt too much for us to remain silent. People with special needs face challenges that many of us will never confront, and yet they are some of the kindest and most loving people you'll ever meet. Their lives are difficult enough as it is, so why would anyone want to make their lives more difficult by mocking them? As a culture, shouldn't we be more compassionate to innocent people - especially those who are less fortunate? Shouldn't we be willing to say that some things just are not funny? Are there any limits to what some people will do or say in regards to my little brother or others in the special needs community? If the writers of a particularly pathetic cartoon show thought they were being clever in mocking my brother and my family yesterday, they failed. All they proved is that they're heartless jerks. - Bristol Palin"
This morning, 8,175 liked the post on Facebook while over 3,000 Facebook users commented.

Imagine if you mocked one of O's kids?
I go to Cornell University, which is a member of the Ivy League and judging by your ignorant response you wouldn't know. Jim was right in that South Park--actually his assertion was correct in its entirety --uses satire to reveal flaws in our society, politics, and pop culture. Yes, South Park may have crude humor, but your infinitesimally small scope of looking into the show does not allow you to see the shear brilliance in South Park. It uses dark humor and satire to enlighten the viewer and further provide insight on topics such as the human condition and the way society functions as a whole. South Park is a biased show, but what isn't these days?
Palin is getting on my nerves and her lack of intelligence insults me whenever she comes into the media. You are right: "Kids ARE learning their behavior from bad TV." Bad TV as in Palin trying to memorize her own policies, which she still can't and speaking on issues she doesn't understand. She is on a stage she does not belong. The fact she is garnering this much attention is appalling. She makes America more stupid with every weird that escapes her lips.
So let me pose a question to you Queen Becky: what's worse a stupid hypocritical bitch like Palin spouting off her quizzical, incoherent bullshit, or a show that through the dark humor sheds light on society?
This certainly is within the First Amendment. The problem is, depravity knows no bounds, and we as a society have not yet hit bottom. While those morons mock, ridicule and make mean-spirited comments about Sarah Palin and her family, they are promoting the wild, careless, slide of our society into such moral decay that who knows, or who cares, what level of disgusting behavior or trash talk will become the norm? Reading these mean comments is like opening the door to a bar, looking inside, seeing all of the ugliness of sloppy drunks, and closing the door. I have seen more depravity working in prisons for 30 years than most will ever think about. The cavalier, smartass comments of some of you amazes me. I've seen your type run in the face of danger, afraid of the dark, riots, stabbings, threats to kill you and your family. I have put away the type of humor that still, today, can't be broadcast on
TV. So, I know that the partiers have a long way to slide, yet, they are gaining speed.

Oops! Take out the word "weird" on the last line of the 2nd paragraph and insert "word."
You've got to be kidding me!! If anyone and I mean ANYONE made fun of my brother with Down Syndrome, I would personally skin them alive! Defending an innocent soul is not being a crybaby. It's sticking up for family and those who can't stick up for themselves!!!
Totally ignorant comment coming from someone who hasn't a clue what 'retard' truly means!
hell yeah, i love family guy. i don't care what they do. hell they can insult my heritage or race and i wouldn't mind one bit. but then again i'm not fucking stupid. call me what you want, i don't care. my best friend is a jew and i call him a hooked-nose jew bastard and he calls me a mick-kraut we just laugh. the point is everyone takes themselves way too seriously, and can't laugh at themselves. i firmly believe if you can't take a joke then fuck you, we don't need your kind in this world.
And hey queen becky, i was raised by my mother. she wasn't at home most of the time and i turned out just fine. blaming tv is stupid, if you want your children to be outstanding members of society then raise them that way. don't take the backseat and then blame the television because your son robbed a liquor store and killed three people.
Read from the beginning - we dealt with that already.
hey michael how stupid do you have to be. i'm tired of people like you telling everyone how to live. if i want to tell a joke then i'm going to tell the joke. and you have not seen my type before. i don't run in the face of danger i embrace it, i have stared down the barrel of a gun and i have beaten the unfortunate bastard that thought it would be a good idea to brake in to my house. so shut up and keep your own asinine comment to yourself, not all of us are depraved.
f*** you dude!!
Sorry, defending a family member is fine. But reality is that the Family Guy episode is nothing more than a comment on current events. They hit and make fun of everyone, when it's in the news. Same with South Park. This type of show hangs it's ratings on episodes like this one. Palin should have realized this and shut up. All she is doing is driving more and more people, whether they agree about the comments or not, to go out and watch the episode. Which is all Seth and Co. want, and Palin is helping them do it.
you should have been aborted!
You double-digit IQ's who criticize Palin are perfect examples of true HATE coming from the left, not the right! We are infinitely more tolerant and open minded than you morons!
Sarah Palin has a responsibility as a parent to defend her children. Any public figure, political or not, would speak out if the media attacked their children. Some people are so blinded by their hate for Sarah Palin, they've forgotten their own humanity.
This from a woman who said the President should "PLAY the WAR CARD?" Really? She's all for right to life until it's somebody elses son or daughter, brother or sister, mother or father is dying for some stupid lie.
She's and idiot and so are the people who listen to her and believe in her.
AMERICA you'd better get off your duffs and vote in the 2010 election or we are going to be screwed.
These Tea-bag-Palin-followers will be voting for who ever Dick Armey and the Drug companies TELL them to vote for.
They are friggin idiots.
The actual message of the show was that people with such disorders are no different than you and I. They are human beings. Also, I'm pretty sure the creators of Family Guy were hoping to get a rise out of Sarah Palin. She's too predictable.
wow! so much wisdom, and with so many big words, like the word bitch. Cornell must be proud. may God bless you. I pray if you have a family that you are blessed with healthy children.
Also, I'm sure you meant to write "sheer brilliance" instead of "shear brilliance," but I'm just nit-picking at this point. 🙂
The skit could be very well offensive but in reality, Palin just wanted some attention to sell her book. Now she's exploiting her son, what's next for this douche? Ms. Palin, give it a rest. Spare us all, maybe just maybe the world be to your satisfaction. A perfect world.
It's a television show you fucking retards.
If they were insulting a homosexual, or if they suggested it would be an equally funny "joke" if Chris were dating a black girl, you and your friends would take to the streets with torches screaming for blood.
I dare you to credibly deny it.
P.S. Sarah Palin's alleged "factual errors" are open to interpretation, and her alleged 'willful and malicious intent to deceive' is something neither you nor Rachel Maddow could ever prove, so please stop with the 'Liar liar pants on fire!' BS. Liberals make a lifestyle out of lying, so stop acting like you suddenly care.
And it was liberals who caused the economic meltdown by forcing banks to lend money to people who couldn't pay it back. That's what started the domino-effect. It wasn't Bush, spending on Iraq, Cheney, or Haliburton. The way we know is: a. the facts on liberals pushing sub-prime loans is a matter of Congressional record, b. historically, govt. spending in a time of war has sparked economic growth, not depression, and c., if you're going to stick to "Bush spending = economic collapse" like glue, then you'd better be ready to denounce Obama or else live life as the inconsistent, hypocritical liberal you are, because Obama's spending has already *dwarfed* Bush's and he's just getting started.
But, like all faithful liberal sheep, you watch the liberal media, and think and walk and talk exactly as you're told.
Good sheep. Good boy.
It's all a conspiracy man! Don't you guys get it?! I mean, think about it: Sarah Palin wants media attention, she gets more when people publicly point their finger at her....She totally paid Seth to air that show! She paid Fox and the writers and even her little daughter to make a big show to give her more TV time! Conspiracy I say!! Why won't you people wake up!?
Lol, and if you believe what I just wrote, you're the retard. In all honesty I don't care. Comedy is comedy, Sara Palin is Sara Palin, Seth is Seth, no politician is a good politician, and the general media is just crap. Maybe the writers at Family Guy went too far. Who knows? They go for what is funny and what's not. If it pushes the limit but funny they'll do it. If it's a rated-G joke and it makes them ROFLMAO! they'll do it.
Funny is to the eye of the beholder. When it boils down to the last minute buzzer they go with what they laugh at, not us.
What'll be interesting to see is if Seth is forced to make a formal TV apology. So far he's quite infamous for just the opposite.
Why is everyone acting like this is something new for "Family Guy?" Four words: Greased. Up. Deaf. Guy. Palin wants to be a public figure as long as it means selling books and getting posh commentator spots, but she can't handle a "Family Guy" jab? Yeah, no, of course, she should be president.
Such hatred, such low class, such intolerance. Thanks for making my point.
