A Discovery Channel star has passed on. Phil Harris, the crusty fishing boat captain whose Alaska coast adventures were captured on Deadliest Catch, died Tuesday night. He was 53. Harris, who started working on fishing boats at the age of 7, suffered a massive stroke Jan. 29 and underwent emergency surgery in Anchorage earlier this week; as recently as last weekend Harris was said to be talking to friends and family and showing gradual signs of recovery. He is survived by his sons Jake and Josh, who worked on their father's boat as deck hands. [AP]

Phil will be sorely missed. He was a great captain and I enjoyed watching him on Deadliest Catch. My condolences go out to his friends, family and crew of the Cornelia Marie. Deadliest Catch will never be the same without Phil. RIP Phil and enjoy your waters in the sky.

How sad I was to learn the death of Captian Phil. I send my prayers to his family, his boys who he dearly loved. I always thought, as our family watched the show, which boat I would ever want to go on and that would have been HIS. Boys make him proud!!!!

How heart breaking to lose Phil! We will miss, and his laughter, his tears, his pranks, his personality,... and his visits! Captain Phil would come and do business with "Kicker Speakers", and Eskimo Joes, here in Stillwater Ok. To me, "Deadliest Catch" and " After the Catch"
were very special because of this. It was watching a friend on T.V. It hurt to see him hurting, stressed to the max, and worried. But there were lots of great times too, and oh how he made us lar tough..Phil was so colorful! He will be missed greatly.
But for Josh and Jake, Phil loved his kids like crazy. I hope they do right by his memory, we pray God's peace, His safety and for His blessings to be with you, the deckhands and their families. We pray Captain Phil has found his peace on "The other Shore"
We also pray for the Captains of the other vessles, like Captain Sig, Captain Andy, Captain Jon,....ect. and for the deckhands the same prayers along with their families. I'm glad they've shared their lives with us. May the LORD bless you and keep you from harm, may he give you peace, safe passage, and protection, may you all share the bounty of God's blessings. Amen. Love to you all, from faithful friends and fans.
