Hollywood Ink: Brett Ratner, Relativity to Serve Catfish

· After a bidding skirmish over the possibly truth-challenged Sundance documentary Catfish, Relativity Media has grabbed rights to the film for a reported $1.5 million. Paramount, whose test screening this week resulted in strong-but-not-strong-enough audience scores, was said to have bowed out after the producers sniffed at a planned viral campaign a la Paranormal Activity. Relativity, meanwhile, will distribute through its Rogue Pictures label; Brett Ratner helped engineer the deal and will receive an executive producer credit. Let the Ratfish gags commence. [Variety]

Fox Searchlight and Hilary Swank try for a do-over, new sequels abound, and more Hollywood Ink after the jump.

· Fox Searchlight is apparently determined to push Hilary Swank back to awards-season glory, shaking off the bomb Amelia and now picking up the rights to yet another biopic, Betty Anne Waters. Swank plays the real-life title character, a single mother who puts herself through law school as a means of fighting her brother's (Sam Rockwell) murder conviction. Tony Goldwyn directed. Release date is to be determined; naturally I'd slot it for August. [THR]

· Universal has hit the gas on another Fast and the Furious sequel, inviting Vin Diesel and Paul Walker back for an installment called Fast Five. In all likelihood the "five" is a reference to the fifth film in the blockbuster franchise, though I'm holding out hope that it means Fast linchpins Walker, Diesel, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez (Letty can be revived, right?) might be abetted by Zach Galifianakis or an orphaned, zinger-slinging moppet or something. [Variety]

· Not to be outdone, Sony has commissioned a script for its third Robert Langdon film, The Lost Symbol, and Disney has done the same for a sequel to its 2007 musical hit Enchanted. [Variety, Variety]

· Just for the hell of it, the currently filming Kate Hudson/Gael Garcia Bernal romance Earthbound has added some Oscar heft to its cast: Kathy Bates and Whoopi Goldberg have both joined the supporting ensemble in undisclosed roles. [THR]
