Heath Ledger's 'Final' Directorial Project Surfaces

Since the tragic death of Heath Ledger 20 months ago, several music videos directed by the Australian actor have been released posthumously, including Modest Mouse's animated "King Rat" and Nick Drake's eerie visual representation for "Black Eyed Dog" (in which director Heath turns the camera on himself, and is pictured drowning in the bathtub). Yesterday, a new music video for the Oscar nominee's childhood friend, rapper N'Fa, surfaced. It is believed to be the final project over which Ledger had complete creative control.

Earlier in October, the Rome Film Festival celebrated Ledger's videos in a special screening of the actor's work. Yesterday, N'Fa, also known as No Fixed Abode, posted the video to his YouTube page, along with a Making Of' video in which Ledger's long-time friend recalls the bare bones shoot as if it was yesterday:

"We shot it in Sydney and Heath was living in Bronte at the time. He gave me a call as he often did, at crazy hours and he called and was like, 'N'Fa, I've got this idea for a video. Let's try to do something on the shoestring budget that we [have].' He was very good at directing and giving you a definite point. So basically, the day before, we went and found a few different ideas and clothing and a massive sheet, a black curtain. We got in touch with two amazing make-up artists and on the day, we shot it so that we just had a couple of lights, three colors: red, black, white, and the backdrop and the single camera and we shot it all in the garage. The idea was to keep it very artistic."

This video was not Heath's final directorial project. It was his first, or one of the first. The video Cause N Effect was filmed in December 2004, when Heath was living in
Bronte, a suburb of Sydney, AU.
The other videos he directed (another for Nfa, two for Ben Harper) were filmed in 2005 & 2006. The Black Eyed Dog one was filmed in summer 2007. In 2007, he also filmed one for his music label's new artist,Grace Woodroofe that was a cover of David Bowie's Quicksilver, and started the one for Modest Mouse that was released a couple of months ago.
He had complete control over most of his videos.
