Ricky Gervais Forecasts A Drunken, Lazy Golden Globes Ceremony

Yesterday, we wondered why Ricky Gervais would squander his talent on hosting the upcoming 67th Annual Golden Globes, an event better known for its "party atmosphere" than its actual awards. Today, the cheeky British comedian confirmed our suspicions -- that the job is a low pressure introduction to award-hosting-duties.

Since the Globes have not had a host since 1995, The Office creator made it clear this morning that his expectations for this year's ceremony are very low:

"Everyone is sitting around and drinking. I'm going to be drunk, and I'm not going to rehearse. So, it's the perfect gig for me."

Gervais also mentioned that he is aiming for a fun environment that is devoid of choreography ("too much effort") or offensive humor:

"I'm not going to try to go for controversy. I'm going to do my brand of humor, and I think people know that when I say something off color or cheeky or a little more cutting edge than you might see on network TV, it comes from a good place."

Below, a sample of Gervais's Globes schtick from last year's ceremony.

If there's anyone who can pull that gig off with a hearty dose of disrespect that'll be loved by all, it's Gervais. The award's just a primer for The Oscar noms. Which, in and of itself, shows us how stupid Hollywood is when everyone there KNOWS the award is a sham yet still lets it influence their decisions.
Bring on the laughs, Ricky. They're needed.
