Sorry, Gilmore Girl Fans
In her first interview since taking over Maura Tierney's role in Parenthood, Lauren Graham told Michael Ausiello that fans shouldn't expect her new character to have many Gilmore Girl similarities: "She's a single mom, yes, but I don't think the tone of the show is the same. The sound of Gilmore Girls, that voice, is so unique to Amy [Sherman-Palladino]. It's a grown-up show, too. It doesn't have some of the more whimsical elements of [Gilmore Girls]. It's more realistic." Harsh words for Stars Hollow. And what about that mythic cinematic reunion of Lorelai and Luke? Graham teased Gilmore superfan Ausiello with this mock pronouncement: "[It's] in the can. It's coming soon to a theater near you." [EW]

Good to see Graham back in a spotlight, she did an outstanding job in GG and I expect she will do the same in Parenthood.
Sorry to hear about Tierney, best wishes to her, and when her recovery is complete I'm sure there will be offers aplenty.
I have a feeling that despite saying it's a different role, Lauren will end up playing the part in much the same way as her character on GG.
I'm sure that even better chances will come Maura's way as soon as she is ready to get back to work, but it's such a shame that she had to let this one go. She received such good reviews from the critics who saw the pilot.
Although their styles are different, my two favorite TV actors of the past 10 years were Lauren Graham and Maura Tierney, so while I was sad that her illness caused Maura to drop out of Parenthood, replacing her with Lauren was welcome news. Hopefully she will get to show some of her intelligence and wit that that was showcased on GG and her many talk show appearances.
