Roman Polanski Denied Bail, Granted Star on Poland's Walk of Fame
There's good news and bad news this morning for Roman Polanski. The bad news: A Swiss appeals court rejected his first bid for immediate release. "We continue to be of the opinion that there is a high risk of flight," said a justice ministry spokesman. The spokesman added, much more surprisingly, that the U.S. government has yet to formally file an extradition request for Polanski; the Justice Department has 60 days to send along its paperwork, which the Swiss government does expect to receive in the near future. Polanski will remain in jail, meanwhile, as his appeals process continues. But now, the good news!
The brand-new Polish Walk of Fame has selected Polanski as one of its 12 inaugural members, a class that also includes such A-list Poles as Marilyn Monroe, Penelope Cruz and Woody Allen. The quote accompanying Polanski's star: "Nothing is too shocking to me." You have to admit, it's a little catchier than "I am the personification of love." Congrats, Roman.
