Kate Gosselin & Kathy Griffin: Whose ATM-Pillaging Ex Do You Prefer?
Meredith Vieira put on her hard-hitting, so-many-questions face for interviewee Kate Gosselin on this morning's Today, inquiring about new allegations that the Jon & Kate Plus Eight star's ex Jon has stolen $230,000 from the couple's joint bank account. Now, Kate Gosselin and My Life on the D-List star Kathy Griffin are not just linked through a rib-tickling parody; they now share the dubious honor of splitting from an ATM-plundering beau. In 2007, Griffin's then-husband Matt Moline gradually stole five figures from her bank account, leading to their divorce. For the sake of single ladies with the innocent need for cable-approved companionship, let us discuss the pros and cons of each money-grubbing baggy-jeans connoisseur after the jump.
Love and Theft
Winner: Matt Moline
Matt Moline's secret early morning trips to then-wife Kathy Griffin's bank account yielded him a grand total of $72,000. That's nothing compared to Jon Gosselin's $230,000 operation, which apparently leaves Kate financially unable to fashion her coif into a formal quail. That said, Kate plays like Jon has no rational reason to take the money. She knows damn well those tiger-print hoodies need to be holographic.
Comic Relief
Winner: Matt Moline
While Jon's five-star unintentional humor comes close to tipping the verdict, Matt Moline is more dependable for laughs you feel right about. His My Life on the D-List quip about Tommy Lee punching a wall "with his dick" still trumps anytime that Jon Gosselin mumbled something about being "too young" to have a midlife crisis. Nice try, Jon. Lohan is three years into hers.
Social Skills
Winner: Jon Gosselin
Though Matt can be solicited for a dandy one-liner, Jon's confessional skills evince more off-the-cuff social talent. He also frequents high-falutin' social settings with boulevardiers like Michael Lohan and Jose Canseco. A regular Algonquin roundtable they are.
Spin-Off Potential
Winner: Jon Gosselin
With no disrespect to the more showstopping of computer programmers, it is safe to say that Matt's level of telegenic potential has withered considerably since his time on D-List. Gosselin, meanwhile, seems gleefully unaware that he is a pox on humanity, and that will surely make for a swell six episodes of Jon Minus Dignity.
Ready to Make Nice
Winner: Matt Moline
Kathy Griffin and Kate Gosselin both seem traumatized by relationship fallout, and neither seems close to a civil reunion with their former paramour. That said, Matt Moline never ordered around a cable network or blithely opined on despising his ex. Score the winning point for our part-time nice guy, part-time kleptomaniac Microsoftie.

Comments
Have to disagree about that last one. I read Kathy's book, and Matt sounds like a total pathological liar and sociopath. Not that I'm a fan of Gosselin, but.. yeah basically YUCK all around.
Stealing ATM cards is so passe, Jon. All the smart douchebags blackmail their exes' bosses nowadays.
I have to say, after having read Kathy's book, I really believe that Matt genuinely loved her, and that he isn't (unlike Jon) just an a*shole. I think Matt had (has?) a lot of issues, yes, however, I believe his issues were the drive to what he "did";
I honestly do not believe that he had any actual malicious intent. I think, his issues aside, Matt is a good guy at heart and just had a blip in the road.
Obviously one of his issues was that since (according to his mother), he needs structure in his life, opening his own business (back then) was not a good idea, as he was unable to keep it together, and so, in order to avoid feeling emasculated (which, as much as I ADORE Kathy, she IS an overbearing personality), he did what he did.
Not that it is excusable, but I can at least appreciate that it wasn't malicious.
That, coupled with entitlement issues, and having not been raised to properly manage money and be disciplined, he had a blip. Also, he was OBVIOUSLY very ashamed of himself, not just because he didn't even once engage in a public battle with Kathy, but Kathy herself says so in her book, AND he gained 100 pounds from over-eating as a result of guilt, which Kathy herself says she believes).
Also, I really do believe that just because someone does something bad, that does not automatically make them a bad person, because that incident is just ONE aspect of what makes a person.
I really believe that Matt just had some problems because he hadn't grown up out of certain things (like depending on parents to manage money)..etc.
From what I've seen from Matt, I think, at heart, he IS just a nice guy who tries to do good, but falls down now and again because of certain issues, and that he really did genuinely and sincerely love Kathy.
(Also from her book), when he eventually fell out of love with her (which wasn't until he TRIED to make it work), he was very direct and honest about it and told her.
Just because someone has a problem or issue (kleptomania-which is an illness btw- or being a pathalogical liar) doesn't mean we should condemn them and that there's no way they could actually be nice people.
Everyone has bad traits, some just manifest themselves in more noticeable ways because of how they affect things and others. When someone has an illness, they are ill. They should be helped, not condemned.
I am a die-hard Kathy Griffin fan, but it makes me a little angry to see how other fans just put down and attack Matt and say some really awful things about him, and I think 'give the guy a fu**ing break!'.Why should he have to pay for his mistake ALL his life? He's already been punished: Lost the woman he loved, had a horrible break-up, been publicly humiliated. Why punish him forever, especially if he's trying to better himself?
I love you Kathy, and Matt, although I DON'T love what you 'did' to Kathy, however, if you're trying to better yourself, then I wish you all the luck :), as I'm sure Kathy would too (in fact, I KNOW she does, she's actually said so).
Sorry for the lengthy message, but I just really thought wow, this guy's being given SO much grief for SO long... come on, cut him some slack. He's not trying to make money off of what happened...he's OBVIOUSLY just trying to move on (very much UNLIKE Jon Gosselin -who, by the way, as much of a tool he seems, I don't think Kate is any better for many reasons, but I won't get into it here).
Anyways, good luck Kathy Griffin, good luck Matt Moline!
