Patricia Heaton Told Not To Make Already-Pointless Appearance at Comic-Con
In some ways, women won the gender battle at Comic-Con by proving that if their fandom involves the bare, glistening abs of a 17-year-old, they can outdo mere Avatar fans in line-waiting prowess any day. Still, though, women have their limits, and a panel toplined by Patricia Heaton was clearly it. Says THR's James Hibberd:
An attempt to expand the genre-driven conference to promote a new family sitcom didn't work out Friday, when ABC's new Patricia Heaton comedy The Middle drew scant attendees.
Sources say about 75 showed up to a screening in a 2000-seat Hilton ballroom, an event promoted as the "Mom-a-Con." Star Patricia Heaton was supposed to introduce the panel, but Warner Bros. told her not to bother due to the size of the crowd.
Yes, I'm thinking that "Mom-a-Con" is perhaps not the right fit for a convention where Pedobear is mobbed like he's Johnny Depp. Better luck next time, marketers.

I thought Sarah Palin retired.
What made Warners think that debuting what appears to be a family sitcom at Comic-Con would be a good idea?
Ha Ha!
They should have had a middle-aged woman in khaki capris and a sweater set chasing Pedobear and then nangoing Fandango right outside the building.
Neo-Mom-A-Con.
i'm surprised she gets anything but 'don't bother attending' requests...
they should have just had jane kaczmarek do it. at least she looks like an alien.
Bourgeois Nerd for the win!
The 75 attendees that found their way to the Hilton Ballroom had been under the impression The Middle must've had something to do with J.R.R. Tolkien. Much to their delight, Patricia doesn't mind being addressed as "Cave Troll."
