Comic-Con Couture: The Women of Watchmen

From L-R: Nicole (Silk Spectre 1), Becca (Silhouette), Samantha (as Silk Spectre II)

MOVIELINE: Is this the first time you guys have dressed as these characters?

Becca: Yes, first time.

So are you set for, like, two Halloweens after this?

Becca: [laughing] It depends! We'll see how well we do at this first.

Now how did you assign who would be dressed as what?

Becca: It just all fell into place.

Nicole: I have more curves, so I did the forties girl.

Becca: I like black bobs, so...[laughs]

Samantha: And I got the leftovers.

Have you heard about all the New Moon controversy? A lot of the old-school fanboys are mad that the girls are taking their spots in Hall H just so they can see the New Moon panel.

All three: Ohhhhh.

Nicole: This is the first I've heard of it. I knew that the New Moon thing would be big, but I didn't know it would cause such controversy.

Well, you three are ladies. What do you make of this boys vs. girls thing?

Becca: Well, I wouldn't so much have a problem with New Moon if it was a movie adapted from a comic book or something. But it's not.

Gender traitors! So you're purists, then? Comic book-derived or bust?

Nicole: We are. I respect the New Moon thing, but we'd much rather see things from comic books. That's just the way it is. ♦

Well they seem like reasonable, nice people. What gives, Mr. Buchanan?

  • Old No.7 says:

Thank you for not asking them to show off their giant blue dongs.

  • Delta says:

What now? People at an event named ComicCon are upset that the entire convention has been taken over by Hollywood marketing departments, and turned into an event to promote mainstream genre movies and television shows to a fanbase that marketers hope to turn into a free advertising department for the rest of the summer and fall? I did not see this coming!
Someone should really write a feature about how Lost killed the comic aspect of ComicCon.

  • yarmulke says:

They neglected to mention the costumes actually double as there Roller Derby outfits. Don't mess with The Watchmen on the rink.

This makes me feel like a frowny-face emoticon.

  • Lowbrow says:

These ladies from Watchmen look more inclined to watch women.

  • The Winchester says:

I was going to dress as Dr. Manhattan's blue wang for Comic Con, but apparently when you do that and walk past a pre-school on the way to the con, they like to arrest you.

    Sexy FAIL.

  • abbynormal says:

They're not gender traitors just because they recognize crappy writing. There are lots of women who think that Twilight blows... pretty much anyone who isn't under 17 or a repressed middle aged soccer mom.
