Billy Mays' Final Pitch

In a week of many unnecessary celebrity passings, the death of professional pitchman Billy Mays had to take a backseat to the King of Pop and the Queen of Angels. But Discovery Channel remembers Mays fondly, and his series Pitchmen comes to a poignant end tonight. No matter how much OxiClean we use, we'll never be able to wash you from our memories, Billy.

Pitchmen [10 PM, Discovery]

For those of you doing freelance work or living on someone's couch, Discovery is running an all-day Pitchmen marathon leading up to the season (possibly series) finale. If you caught any of the previous episodes, you will know that the show succeeded based on Billy's energy, and in the finale he pits his skill against that of fellow pitchman and partner Anthony Sullivan to determine who is the ultimate pitchmaster.

Wipeout [8 PM, ABC]

This is still one of the best summer shows, but they switch the obstacles so often that it's hard to gauge contestants week-to-week. Sure, that's a Wipeout purist talking, but with the addition of Spiked Fenders this week, we find ourselves nostalgic for the days of the Dreadmill and the Wrecking Ball.

Monsterquest [9 PM, History]

In a couple decades, when all the television networks are owned by the Sultan of Brunei or Warren Buffett's dog, programming will be grouped by topic. When that day comes, we will be all over the bigfoot channel. History takes a break from shows about Goebbels's favorite vacation spots to investigate DNA evidence from an alleged forest monster.

Blown Away [10 PM, AMC]

I saw this movie in the theaters twice back in the day, and it still retains its weird brother vs. brother Irish vibe, even though the whole Northern Ireland conflict has fallen off the front page. Tommy Lee Jones is at his most unhinged as a genius explosive expert with an axe to grind against a former comrade and Boston cop played by Jeff Bridges. AMC shows this film a lot, but if they ever show the 1992 Blown Away with the Coreys and Nicole Eggert, we'll know that someone in their programming department is reading our diary.

My "Blown Away" was first in 1984 - but it was gay porn so I guess it doesn't count.
